2A for Today | The Tyrant’s Toolkit: Virginia’s Assault on the Second Amendment

As the Virginia Legislature convenes once more, the enemies of liberty are sharpening their legislative blades, preparing to hack away at the sinews of the Second Amendment under the pretense of “public safety.” Their latest weapon of political deceit comes in the form of House Bill 217, a sweeping catalogue of infringements that would make King George III blush.

The bill’s drafters pretend to be guardians of order; in truth, they are the gravediggers of freedom. HB 217 would ban the importation, sale, manufacture, purchase, and transfer of entire classes of firearms — rifles, pistols, and shotguns — merely because they bear cosmetic features that offend the delicate sensibilities of bureaucrats: pistol grips, folding stocks, threaded barrels, detachable magazines. In the fevered mind of the modern tyrant, a pistol grip has become more dangerous than the criminal who wields it.

This bill does not merely regulate; it redefines the right itself. It transforms the ordinary, lawful implements of self-defense into contraband by legislative fiat. The authors of HB 217 would outlaw the very tools by which free men have historically preserved their lives, their families, and their Republic.
