From the Editor | No, the Climate Agenda Is Not About the Climate
If the climate agenda were really about the climate, then the agenda’s promoters would have abandoned their dire warnings about catastrophic climate change as soon as they realized their predictions were wrong.
Well, they have abandoned at least one past prediction. After all, how many are warning today that human-induced climate change is ushering in a new ice age? Yet The Washington Post published an article on July 9, 1971 that warned, “The world could be as little as 50 or 60 years away from a disastrous new ice age, a leading atmospheric scientist predicts.” That scientist was Dr. S. I. Rasool of NASA and Columbia University, and the Post summarized his warnings: “‘In the next 50 years’ the fine dust man constantly puts into the atmosphere by fossil fuel-burning could screen out so much sunlight that the average temperature could drop by six degrees. If sustained over ‘several years’ — ‘five to 10,’ he estimated — ‘such a temperature decrease could be sufficient to trigger an ice age!’” Others also warned about a coming ice age in the not-too-distant future.
Of course, that was half a century ago. Over the last several decades, the powers that be have consistently warned us that man’s activities on Earth are causing runaway global warming leading to environmental catastrophe. So have they gotten it right this time? One reason not to believe this is that they keep warning that the coming catastrophe is just around the corner. Consider these warnings that were given wide circulation by The Associated Press in a 1989 story headlined “U.N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked”:
