Law-abiding firearm owners have finally received long-awaited action by President Donald Trump’s administration, as after some early growing pains it is beginning to deliver on its promises to restore the God-given, constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. The administration recently announced it will reverse dozens of Biden-era regulations that imposed unnecessary burdens on gun owners, manufacturers, and dealers. 

Law-abiding Gun Owners and Businesses

On April 29, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced they would end more than three dozen firearms regulations, including the Biden-era zero-tolerance policy that led to the revocation of hundreds of Federal Firearms Licenses for minor compliance errors. ATF Director Robert Cekada stated in a press release, “Our enforcement focus from here on out is on willful violators and criminal actors, not inadvertent compliance issues by responsible owners and licensees.” 

The ATF also narrowed the definition of “adjudicated as a mental defective,” restoring rights for individuals who voluntarily sought mental-health treatment. Included with the reversals is a proposed ATF rule to allow the mailing of handguns through the U.S. Postal Service, which would rescind a nearly 100-year-old restriction.
