Woke Doctors Paying the Price: Major Victory Against Child “Transgenderism”

“‘Transgender’ is not a legitimate medical status, but an ideological one,” I wrote in 2019. “Yet this truth won’t stop our time’s Lysenkoists from performing our age’s version of lobotomies. What will is being sued into irrelevancy.”

Now something approximating this is finally happening, too. The latest example comes out of Texas, where state attorney general Ken Paxton just settled a major lawsuit with Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH). And, boy, is it a doozy.

Despite Texas’ legislative ban on sexual-distortion treatments (SDTs; aka “gender-affirming care”) for minors, TCH continued the practices. (In fact, more than half of states have limited SDT access.) Commentator Susan Quinn reported on the story Monday:

In addition to stopping these practices, Texas Children’s has agreed to establish the first Detransition Clinic to help those who, for medical or emotional reasons, have realized that they erred in making a transitioning decision.

This alone would be a major victory, but there’s more. The Federalist, quoting Paxton, explained Friday why this was a landmark settlement:

“For the first five years,” Paxton’s announcement says, “all services provided through the Detransition Clinic will be funded by Texas Children’s and be free of charge to patients.”

The hospital will also pay $10 million to the state for ‘billing Texas Medicaid for unallowable and illegal ‘gender-transition’ interventions,’ while also agreeing to ‘fire, permanently and irrevocably terminate all existing privileges, and never again hire or credential five woke doctors who performed harmful medical interventions on Texans.’

The hospital also agrees never to perform falsely labeled ‘gender-affirming’ services again, although those harmful medical procedures for children have already been outlawed in Texas.

This is perhaps sufficiently punitive to scare these child abusers straight. Of particular note are the consequences visited on the five woke doctors. This is the application of a Saul “the Red” Alinsky principle, but toward a good end. That is, “Go after people, not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.”

Too often in America wealthy transgressors essentially skate while their institutions (company, government agency, etc.) pay the damages. But this is like hoping to correct a child’s in-school misbehavior by giving his school administrators a 15-minute time out. Hopefully the woke physicians will now have to move to a left-wing state to find employment.

The Legal Landscape

Paxton’s state actions set the standard, as statutes of limitations (typically one to five years) often preclude individuals from suing. Nonetheless, there have been at least 28 “detransitioner” malpractice lawsuits filed in America against doctors, hospitals, and clinics, Grok AI informs. The platform also writes that the following is the key outcome so far:

Fox Varian (NY, 2026): The first to reach a jury verdict. At age 16 (in 2019), she received a double mastectomy. She sued her psychologist and plastic surgeon for inadequate consent and deviating from standards. A jury awarded her $2 million ($1.6M for pain/suffering + $400K for future medical expenses). This is described as a landmark/historic first.

Grok also provides other notable examples:

• Chloe Cole (CA, vs. Kaiser Permanente): Received puberty blockers, testosterone, and mastectomy as a minor. High-profile case; trial scheduled for 2027.
• Luka Hein (NE, 2023, vs. University of Nebraska Medical Center): Double mastectomy at 16 while allegedly being treated for other mental health issues.
• Isabelle Ayala (RI, 2023): Hormones starting at 13 amid depression/suicidal ideation.
• Prisha Mosley (NC, 2023), Soren Aldaco (TX), Layla Jane/Kayla Lovdahl (CA, vs. Kaiser), Cristina Hineman (NY, vs. Planned Parenthood), and others involving similar claims.

The Reality of a Lie

In truth, at issue here is perhaps American history’s worst malpractice. As Quinn laments:

The persistence of these practices is tragic at every level: the children, who become convinced that they were born in the wrong body; the families, who either feel compelled to “support” their children in these disturbing beliefs; or the families who don’t know how to stop their children from accepting transgender ideology without destroying their relationships. There are also teachers, counselors, and others who feel obligated to emphasize transitioning, even if the children are struggling with the idea of gender identity.

Really, though, Quinn is too kind. The reality is that precious few MUSS (Made-up Sexual Status, aka “transgender”) kids have “gender dysphoria”; i.e., sexual-identity disorder (SID). In fact, MUSS individuals appear to occupy four categories, listed below in my perceived order of prevalence:

• The extremely rare SID sufferers.
• Autogynephiliacs — males, predominantly grown men, who derive excitement from dressing as women and doing things they do.
• Children and youth who have various psychological problems, but are wrongly diagnosed as having SID by money-hungry “gender clinics.”
• People, mainly youth, embracing the identity for social reasons (e.g., seeming cool, getting attention and preferential treatment). This is the “social contagion” factor.

Quinn also writes that the “resistance to counseling is baffling.” But it isn’t. Left-wing states have actually often enacted laws in an effort to ban “reparative therapy” counseling designed to remedy MUSS confusion. Yet the same governments may applaud giving children SDTs — and scarring them for life. Part of this is attributable to ideology, too.

The Other Factor

But not all of it. Just consider the 2023 testimonial of ex-“gender clinic” worker Jamie Reed. While she describes herself as to the left of Bernie Sanders, Reed blew the whistle on her Missouri SDT clinic. Why? The doctors at her Washington University Transgender Center were recommending kids for SDTs assembly-line style. She called it “morally and medically appalling” — but monetarily appealing.

In fact, from 2022-2025 (peak-profit years), the U.S. medical establishment made hundreds of millions of dollars annually off child SDTs. In other words, there’s been much talk about the money made by youth sex traffickers. But they’ve got nothing on the youth “sex-change” traffickers.

Sadly, this battle to save kids has just begun, too, as leftist states are still committed to the MUSS-child-abuse agenda. And why? Well, when political power is your god, a few thousand permanently-scarred kids are just some broken eggs for your omelet.
