Democratic Candidate Wants MAGA Members Burnt to Ashes? If So, She’s Not Alone

Call it a somewhat different version of Zohran Mamdani’s “warmth of collectivism.” Candidate Shelly Headen, a North Carolina Democrat seeking a state House seat, believes that Trump supporters belong in death-camp crematoria. And that’s not all.

Headen has also called for an attack on United States soil. This should “preferably” happen in “Alabama, Louisiana,” she wrote — “where the stupid people live.”

Whether they’d be stupid enough to post such comments while harboring political ambitions, Headen didn’t say.

The kicker: The candidate has boasted on her campaign page that she’s “running to restore human decency.”

While that appears doubtful, something else she can’t now restore is her reputation. She has deactivated social-media accounts and deleted some comments, but the damage is done. Even the North Carolina Democratic establishment now wants her deleted, having pulled support. Shocking Shelly, though, isn’t going anywhere, she vows.

Dachau Delight

Breitbart reported on the story Friday, writing:

Headen posted a Facebook story from a vacation showing her in front of ovens in a German concentration camp memorial, saying, “Visiting Dauchau [sic] Concentration Camp in Germany… This is where Trump supporters belong.”

… In social media photos [below], Headen is seen smiling as she stands in front of what appears to be crematorium ovens, which were used by the Nazi SS to burn the bodies of Jews and other prisoners who died or were murdered at the camp.

Headen faces incumbent Republican state Representative John Blust in a suburban Guilford County district.

Some X respondents noted that, given the death camp’s sobering history, smiling in the photo alone was odd.

Then there were Headen’s Red Dawn desires. That comment, related the Carolina Journal,

was posted a year ago in a group called “Democrats, Republicans and Independents for Democracy” in response to another user’s post suggesting the United States needed to be “put in its place.”

On an anti-Trump Facebook group, she responded to an open-ended Facebook post that asked, “Why is it that some of us can see what is going on in the world and others can’t?” She replied, “Maybe they need to experience sexual assault so they can experience what Trump’s victims feel.”

Headen also responded to a post in the same group that praised the man who pleaded guilty to the 2024 killing of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Headen suggested violence is more useful than peaceful protests. “I think America is beyond peaceful protest!” she commented.

For Headen’s part, though, she has said, “I can’t remember what I’ve posted.” Yet she also dismissed her comments as “a few angry moments on social media.”

But what Headen lacks in virtue she makes up for in confidence. Exhibit A: The criticism she now must endure, she says, is much like the Passion of the Christ. As the candidate stated in an Assembly interview:

I’ve sacrificed myself just like Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, and Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and all the people that put themselves out there to sacrifice for our country.

(As an aside, in more shocking news, did you hear that politics is teeming with narcissists?)

Headen Just Joins the Club

Most notable about Headen, however, isn’t what she said but what she represents. That is, leftist masks that “are coming all the way off,” as the New York Post puts it — “revealing the ugly truth.”

The paper opens noting the old claim that leftists mean well; they’re just “misguided.”

Malevolent is more like it, the Post states, in so many words. The outlet then writes:

Arguably the big reveal began with the leftist celebration of Luigi Mangione, who murdered UnitedHealth[care] CEO Brian Thompson.…

It was a watershed moment: Suddenly, many on the left felt free to proclaim that they saw killing CEOs as virtuous.

And in recent weeks the vitriol has flowed ever more openly.

Now it isn’t just CEOs; when Erin Placenti [sic — Piacenti], a 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, was fatally stabbed last month by a nut in Times Square, leftists cheered because she worked for a bank that had issued a “buy” recommendation for Israeli bank stocks.

Last week, the anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination — which occurred while he was politely debating leftist college students in an open forum — spurred “Happy Kirkiversary” and “Merry Kirkmas” outbursts on campuses around the nation.

Yet if the Mangione affair was the big revelation, there were many little revelations prior — and some other big ones. As I illustrated in “Violence, Inc.: A Leftist Enterprise,” violence attended leftism’s very birth itself, during the French Revolution. Since then (1789), too, leftism has continually left trails of blood and bodies.

So Headen is carrying on a long, dark tradition, one predating Mangione and his groupies even in our time. As another example, ex-CNN host Reza Aslan tweeted in 2019, “The MAGA hat is a KKK hood. And his [Trump’s] evil, racist scourge must be eradicated from society.”

Even more shocking, though, was one Kyle Jurek, a field organizer in Senator Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) 2020 campaign. He was seen on undercover video (below) talking about putting political opponents in Stalinesque “gulags.” What’s more, the Sanders campaign was full of people of his mind, he revealed.

More shocking still: Sanders never repudiated Jurek or his remarks. In fact, there’s no record of the man even being fired.

What Makes the Left Tick?

The reality is this: Contrary to the “Both sides are guilty” effort at ideological ecumenism, the Left really is different. How? Well, I’ll relate an epiphany I had when I was a very young man, decades ago. To wit:

Liberalism is what evil is masquerading as in our time.

Back then, I explained this to my best friend in a very simple way — he then experienced the same light-bulb moment. Alluding to the Left’s chronic enablement of irresponsibility, I said, essentially:

Liberalism is like a bad parent who says, “You don’t have to pay for what you get; you’re not responsible for what you do. You don’t have to go to school; you can just play all day. Eat ice cream and candy every meal if you want, too.”

And of course, encouraging sin in others is evil.

My understanding of these matters deepened in the ensuing decades. I ultimately realized, too, that so-called “leftism” isn’t so much an ideology as a process: movement toward moral disorder. This breeds disordered thinking and, as I explained in February, this defines leftists: They are “low-virtue people.”

I’m speaking generally, of course. As many would point out, liberals and conservatives are alike in many, many ways. It is, though, the differences that kill you.
