A judge in Harris County, Texas, sentenced two illegal-alien gang members who murdered a girl in a Satanic ritual four years ago to 40 years in prison.
Last week’s convictions of the MS-13 members, after guilty pleas as jury selection for their trial began, followed the conviction of a third in February, also in connection with the girl’s murder.
The victim was 15-year-old Genesis Cornejo-Alvarado, whom the three murdered in 2017.
Sacrifice to Santa Muerte
The two murderers, Diego Hernandez-Rivera, 22, and Miguel Alvarez-Flores, 26, kidnapped Cornejo-Alvarado on January 19, 2017, KHOU11 reported at that time.
Details about her murder came from another girl whom the pair also held in captivity, the station reported:
A 14-year-old girl told police the same suspects held her against her will and forced her to have sex repeatedly over a two-week period in early February. She said Flores and Rivera were also holding Genesis against her will, and they killed her because she bashed the gang’s shrine to a satanic saint. The gang leader decided she needed to die as a sacrifice to the saint.
Rivera’s gang name was “Scary.” Alvarez-Flores called himself “Diabolico.”
As the Washington Post reported in its courtroom account, “‘One night during her confinement, she observed an incident where Genesis made an outburst against a shrine dedicated to the gang members’ satanic beliefs,’ the prosecutor said”:
“Diabolico [Alvarez-Flores] was offended at the outburst,” the prosecutor said. He approached the statue and offered it a cigarette. Then he walked back to the other gang members.
“The beast did not want a material offering, but wanted a soul,” Alvarez-Flores said, according to the prosecutor.
One morning when the 14-year-old woke up, Cornejo-Alvarado was gone.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Harris said her prosecutors would have proved the connection to Santa Muerte, the saint of death:
Prosecutors expected to show in court that Cornejo-Alvarado … was dating a gang member and was chosen as a sacrifice and shot to death, likely because she disrespected their shrine to the Santa Muerte, the Saint of Death.
In September, a federal judge sentenced the MS-13 member who ordered the murder to 39 years in prison.
Known as “Danger” and yet another illegal alien, Jose Salvador Gonzalez-Campos, 30, participated in two murders in Columbus, Ohio. But he also dispatched “MS-13 members in Houston to shoot and kill a 15-year-old girl,” federal prosecutors said:
In the early morning hours of February 16, 2017, three MS-13 members took Genesis Cornejo to a quiet street in Houston after telling her they were going to buy marijuana. While the victim stood on the side of the road, two of the gang members shot her in the head and chest and left her on the side of the road.
Law enforcement interviews and social media messages state Gonzalez-Campos ordered the murder, saying the girl “had to disappear” because she had been in a relationship with a rival 18th Street gang member.
In his own Facebook messages, Gonzalez-Campos said, “I told him to hit her, for him to send word on the line. … For real, dog, they had two days to kill her.”
In 2018, the illegal-alien murderer landed a one-year sentence for illegally possessing a firearm.
Federal authorities might explain why the thug wasn’t deported. Genesis Cornejo-Alvarado might be alive.
Satanic Gang
Though the satanic “connection has waned over the past 30 years,” the Washington Post reported about the gang’s demonic roots, “it can still be seen in MS-13’s use of satanic nicknames, tattoos and other imagery. The gang’s devil horns hand sign is known as ‘la garra,’ a Spanish reference to Satan’s claws. And some MS-13 members have told investigators that they committed their crimes at the behest of ‘la bestia,’ or the Beast.”
“You feel that the devil is helping you,” an MS-13 member testified during a federal gang trial in 2016. “Sometimes the devil asked you to do things for him.”
MS-13’s initiation rituals, the Post reported, citing have included drinking blood in a cemetery and animal sacrifice: cutting open a cat.
