Deranged Burglar With a Kitchen Knife
Local news reported out of Las Vegas on October 24 about a home break-in that ended when a homeowner shot the intruder through a bedroom door. A family was at home fast asleep when a burglar broke in to their house in the early morning hours. The family didn’t talk with the media about what occurred, but neighbors told 8 News Now that the family talked with them immediately afterwards and told them what transpired. According to one of the neighbor’s accounts, the family was awakened by the intruder trying to break in to the bedroom using a kitchen knife. Neighbors said a member of the family fired through the closed bedroom door at the suspect. The shot hit the suspect in the knee, incapacitating him, and police were soon called to the scene.
Witnesses filmed the event and posted video to social media, which showed arriving officers removing an injured man, who was bleeding profusely from his left knee, from the house. Neighbor Heath Horvat told 8 News Now what he heard that night. He was awakened from his sleep by loud noises and then heard “some yelling, and then I hear a pop, then a second pop, and then I hear someone yelling ‘Call Vegas PD! Call Vegas PD!” Las Vegas Metro Police later identified the suspect as 28-year-old David Valle. Valle was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment and later charged with one count of burglary while possessing a gun/deadly weapon and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators are still looking into what might have been the motive, but neighbors feel that the man’s wild behavior and the fact that he was barefoot and shirtless might suggest drugs or mental-health problems. “He was disturbed, obviously. We don’t know with drugs or what it was…. I was shocked,” Horvat told 8 News Now. The station concluded its story by explaining that neighbors are banding together to watch out for one another in their neighborhood due to rising crime, and that some neighbors even said they’re planning to soon purchase a gun for self-defense.
