In 2007, California passed and signed into law AB 1471, the first legislation of its kind to introduce any sort of requirement on the microstamping of firearms.

Microstamping is a ballistics identification technology that has been met with a lot of controversy.

Since 2007, other states such as Maryland, New York, and right now, New Jersey have been trying to push microstamping legislation to make it a requirement for semiautomatic firearms as well as handguns. There are multiple issues with the feasibility of this technology which we will explain in detail, along with the progress of microstamping legislation, in today’s episode.

And this week’s 2A for Today Modern Militiaman is a good Samaritan who stopped a violent patron who was harassing customers in a Texas smokehouse and then attacked an elderly man in the restroom. The good Samaritan had a license to carry and, after being assaulted himself by the perpetrator, managed to gain the upper hand and shoot the suspect who then tried to flee, only to be captured shortly after by authorities.
