Mamdani, Ocasio-Cortez Laugh As Speakers Read Names of 9/11 Victims

In an apparent contest to see who could be named the most insensitive buffoon in America on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 Muslim terror raid, far-left Democratic U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Big Apple Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, laughed today at the annual commemoration.

The pair of anti-American, anti-Christian leftists chuckled as speakers read the names of those crushed, incinerated, and otherwise murdered by Mamdani’s co-religionists.

What was funny is unclear.

Beyond the fury that their inappropriate giggles invited on social media, very clear is one thing. The video showed just what some immigrants and their kids — what some call “paper Americans” — think about this country and its past: nothing.

And, unhappily, that problem is worsening with mass immigration, notably by Muslims. As The New American reported yesterday, citing the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), that immigrant demographic has doubled since 2001.

A Somber Occasion

Americans older than about 33 years remember what happened a quarter-century ago today.

  • 8:46 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 111 hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center;
  • 9:03 a.m.: United Airlines Flight 175 hit the the South Tower;
  • 9:37 a.m.: American Flight 77 hit the west side of the Pentagon;
  • 9:59 a.m.: South Tower collapses;
  • 10:03 a.m.: United Flight 93 crashes in Shanksville, Pennsylvania;
  • 10:28 a.m.: North Tower collapses.

Employees in the buildings jumped from windows to avoid burning to death.

Ocasio-Cortez was 12 years old that day. She can well remember it. A Ugandan-Indian, 10-year-old Mamdani had just landed in the United States. He, too, should remember what happened.

Funny?

Alas, something about reading the names of those murdered that day tickled the funny bones of the two democratic socialists who cry about deporting illegal aliens.

Video shows the pair laughing, while other video shows those in attendance sobbing.

“How the hell do you laugh while the names of those murdered on 9/11 are being read aloud?” GOP Senator Ted Cruz of Texas asked on X:

Why would you do so?

Cruz had observed the obvious at the GOP convention in Dallas:

Could anyone have imagined that comrade Mamdani would be the mayor of New York? The hate that killed Charlie Kirk, that knocked down the Twin Towers, that led to two assassination attempts on President Trump — it just keeps getting worse and worse. And we are witnessing a new and dangerous red-green alliance, communists and Islamists, coming together…. They hate Christians, they hate Jews, they hate capitalism, they hate the Constitution, and they hate America.

“3,000 Americans died that day and they’re smiling and joking,” commentator Benny Johnson wrote:

They don’t even pretend to care anymore.

“Imagine telling a New Yorker in 2001 that in 25 years, we will have imported so many people from the third-world that their mayor would be a Muslim communist who giggles like a little girl while the names of the victims are honored during the 9/11 Memorial ceremony,” GOP Representative Brandon Gill of Texas wrote.

Others noted AOC’s laughter today versus her crying outside an illegal-alien detention center.

“While normal Americans cry, commie Mamdani and AOC laugh it up at the 9/11 memorial in New York,” commentator Spencer Pratt wrote on X:

They hate you. They hate your country. They enjoy your misery. We cannot allow these people to have power.

A citizen only about eight years, perhaps the Ugandan-Indian Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez, the daughter of a Puerto Rican mother, might learn not to laugh by listening to U.S. military and air traffic control radio transmissions, or phone calls to relatives from sobbing, terrified soon-to-be-dead Americans from the planes and towers. Or maybe that wouldn’t faze them.

Supporting Muslim Terror

For his part, before he won the mayoral election less than a year ago, Mamdani appeared with a 9/11 terror apologist. On October 17, 2025, Mamdani was all smiles when he appeared arm-in-arm with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, whom federal prosecutors fingered as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 WTC bombing.

As the New York Post reported, the 76-year-old chieftain of the Muslim Alliance of North America “has publicly defended the plotters of the attack against the FBI and CIA, whom he at the time dubbed the ‘real terrorists.’”

Wahhaj was major supporter of the notorious late “blind sheikh,” Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, convicted in 1995 of plotting “a cataclysmic ‘day of terror’: five bombs that were to blow up the United Nations headquarters, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington Bridge and 26 Federal Plaza, the Government’s main office building in New York, as The New York Times explained.

“Paper Americans”

But perhaps the pair found the day so amusing because they are not, in any sense, Americans.

“This is also how paper-Americans treat Confederate American history,” one X user wrote:

They have no blood on home soil.

They don’t care.

They are non-assimilating.

Americans honoring their families means nothing to them.

So they laugh.

CIS released data yesterday that show the non-assimilation problem worsening. “The number of immigrants — including naturalized citizens, legal permanent residents, long-term temporary visitors, and illegal immigrants — from the Muslim world increased from 1.7 million in 2001 to 3.4 million in 2024,” CIS explained.

Total increase in the Mohammedan population was 103 percent.

Continued CIS:

This is much faster than the growth in the overall foreign-born population (58 percent) and is nearly seven times faster than for the overall U.S.-born population.

The decision to admit large numbers of people from Afghanistan after the U.S. withdrawal caused the population of Afghan immigrants to nearly double from 2020 to 2024, but Afghans accounted for only a quarter of the total increase from the Islamic world over this time period.

Prior research indicates that 10 to 20 percent of immigrants from majority-Muslim countries may be illegal immigrants — lower than the 25 to 30 percent share for the overall foreign-born. The rapid increase in immigrants from the Islamic world overwhelmingly reflects legal immigration policies.

Much of that immigration comes from hostile Islamic nations:

  • Afghanistan: 202,000 — 476 percent
  • Pakistan: 201,000 — 93 percent
  • Iran: 119,000 — 41 percent
  • Syria: 65,000 — 109 percent
  • Yemen: 66,000 — 416 percent
  • Somalia: 45,000 — 87 percent

Americans familiar with these numbers wonder how many more Muslim mayors they must watch laugh at 9/11 ceremonies.
