NBA Executive’s Tweet Becomes an International Incident

On October 4, Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey’s very brief message sent via Twitter expressed his support for the demonstrators in Hong Kong. In a clear example of totalitarian control over what should be free speech, the Chinese Communist government protested vehemently. Morey removed the message but was not forced to repudiate what he said by NBA brass. Beijing’s leaders then cancelled a televised airing in China of exhibition games involving two NBA teams in China.
