RFK, Jr. United With Trump Against Democrats

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is joining forces with former President Donald Trump to form a “unity government,” sparking a wave of support from voters who feel disenfranchised by the Democratic Party. Speaking on joining Trump’s campaign, Kennedy said endorsing Trump would be challenging for his family, but ultimately worthwhile in order to save the country: “My joining the Trump campaign will be a difficult sacrifice for my wife and children, but worthwhile if there’s even a small chance of saving ... kids. Ultimately the only thing that will save our country, and our children, is if we choose to love our kids more than we hate each other.”

Suspending the Campaign

Kennedy had previously left the Democratic Party and begun a run for president as an Independent. In a speech on August 23, he announced he would suspend that presidential run to support Trump. Later that day, he spoke at a Trump campaign event in Glendale, Arizona. The announcement came after Kennedy faced ballot-access lawsuits in multiple states, which ultimately prevented him from being put on the ballot in states where he could take votes from Vice President Kamala Harris.

Kennedy said he would withdraw from the ballot in 10 swing states, and encouraged his supporters in battleground states to vote for Trump. He noted that voters in states that likely won’t determine the outcome of the election will still have the opportunity to vote for him, stating,
