Former Pentagon Official Urged Invasion of Ceuta at Neocon Website

Another link in the chain of events that preceded the Muslim invasion of Ceuta, Spain, last week has surfaced in two pieces from the neoconservative MidEast Forum think tank.

In March, former Pentagon official Michael Rubin suggested that Moroccans should invade to punish Spain for its prime minister’s “anti-colonial rhetoric.” Yesterday, Rubin said without saying it that the residents of the enclave are getting what they deserve.

As The New American reported last week, in April, after angry Spaniards burned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in effigy, he vowed revenge and the House Appropriations Committee falsely claimed that Ceuta belongs to Morocco. 

In 2019, Netanyahu’s son, Yair, said that Muslims should conquer the tiny outpost of civilization on the northwestern trip of Africa.

New “Green March” Needed

The invasion’s latest links to Israel’s Amen Corner appeared on March 16 and just yesterday. The first offering was “Morocco Should Send a New Green March into Ceuta and Melilla: Spain’s Pedro Sánchez Should Make Good on His Anti-Colonial Rhetoric and End Its Occupation in Africa.” The second: “Does Spain Understand the Irony Underlying the Crisis in Ceuta?: If Criticism of Spain’s Position on Ceuta and Melilla Surprised Madrid, It Is Not Because Such Arguments Suddenly Emerged.”

Rubin is a former “Pentagon official” who “contributed to military education, teaching U.S. Navy and Marine units about regional conflicts and terrorism.” Founded in 1990 by chickenhawk neoconservative Daniel Pipes, the MidEast Forum is supposed to promote “American interests.” In fact, it is another arm of the Israel Lobby.

Thus, Rubin’s call for an Islamic invasion of Morocco. “With Spain’s Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez embracing the language of decolonization, Mohammed VI should reclaim the spirit of the Green March to finalize the expulsion of Spanish colonists from Moroccan soil,” the Rubin wrote:

Ceuta and Melilla might be relatively tiny towns, but they represent illegitimate beach heads and are home to approximately 170,000 Spanish settlers. They are a weak spot for European security since African migrants regularly rush the fence to claim asylum.

Moroccans should gather, send bulldozers to the border, and then enter Ceuta and Melilla unarmed to raise the flag. Sánchez and the Spanish press bleat, but they have no grounds to act. Nor, for that matter, would NATO, even if Moroccan forces entered the towns to restore order and organize the dispatch of settlers across the Strait of Gibraltar and back to Spain.

The Green March, as Wikipedia explains, was an invasion of Spanish territory disguised as a “mass demonstration” that “was coordinated by the Moroccan government and the military, to force Spain to hand over the disputed, autonomous semi-metropolitan province of Spanish Sahara to Morocco.”

Also involved: the CIA and State Department.

On August 3, Rubin struck again, asking whether Sanchez understood the “irony” of his situation. “The Spanish reaction shows that not only the Spanish government but much of Spanish society understands neither irony nor Spain’s hypocrisy,” Rubin wrote:

At the same time, their default position is to embrace an antisemitic conspiracy theory that Jews somehow plotted to manipulate Moroccans, whom, they assume, have no agency. Put aside that no Spaniard can supply any evidence that Jews, Israelis, or think tanks reached out to a single Moroccan, because there is none.…

Lost in the fury is the reality that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s policies drive the crisis. His mass amnesty for migrants certainly encourages further migration on the assumption that there will be future amnesties. 

Yes, Israelis Pushed for the Invasion. So Did the U.S.

In fact, one top Israeli, Yair Netanyahu, has pushed for an invasion. And he was quite clear about it.

“Dear Arabs and Muslims. Want to free occupied Arab Islamic lands? Here’s a good start!” he wrote on X over a map of the region. “Let’s make a deal, we won’t fund NGOs in your country calling you to give away Ceuta and Melilla, and you will *stop* funding NGOs in our country that calls us to give away Judea and Samaria.”

In April, his father warned that Spain would suffer retribution after angry Spaniards burned him in effigy and Spain “defamed” the Israeli Defense Force as it rampaged through Gaza and the West Bank.

“Israel will not remain silent in the face of those who attack us,” Netanyahu said:

Spain has defamed our heroes, the soldiers of the IDF, the soldiers of the most moral army in the world.

Therefore, I have instructed today to remove Spain’s representatives from the coordination center in Kiryat Gat, after Spain has chosen repeatedly to stand against Israel.

Those who attack the State of Israel instead of terrorist regimes will not be our partners regarding the future of the region.

I am not willing to tolerate this hypocrisy and hostility. I do not intend to allow any country to wage a diplomatic war against us without paying an immediate price.

Netanyahu’s trained poodles on Capitol Hill promptly produced a statement that Ceuta belongs to Morocco.

“The Committee notes the historic alliance between the United States and Morocco, as formalized in 1786 by the Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship,” the House Appropriations Committee wrote:

The Committee notes that the Spanish-administered cities of Ceuta and Melilla are located in Moroccan territory and remain the subject of Morocco’s longstanding claim. The Committee supports efforts by the Secretary of State to encourage diplomatic engagement between Morocco and Spain on the future status of Ceuta and Melilla.

In fact, the two enclaves have belonged to Spain for hundreds of years, as the BBC noted, and even the far-left United Nations has rejected Morocco’s claim to them.

After all this encouragement, 60,000 Muslims invaded Ceuta late last week, leaving a trail of trash and destruction and terrified women.
