Reclaiming Government

Joe Wolverton, II, J.D.

Stolen Government, by Charles Key, self-published, 2024, 110 pages, paperback.

In an era in which the chasm between the governed and their supposed representatives widens daily, Charles Key’s Stolen Government emerges as a timely and incisive exposĂ©. Drawing from his tenure as an Oklahoma state representative, Key dissects the structural maladies afflicting our legislative bodies, revealing a system that has been commandeered by special interests and insulated elites.

Key’s central thesis is both compelling and disconcerting: The mechanisms of our government have been subverted to such an extent that true representation is a mirage. He elucidates how legislative rules and procedures, often opaque to the average citizen, have been manipulated to concentrate power in the hands of a select few. Committee chairs, often appointed based on loyalty rather than merit, wield disproportionate influence, deciding which bills see the light of day and which languish in obscurity.
