Road Rage 

WSMV.com reported on February 27 about a shooting in Nashville in what appeared to be a deadly road-rage incident. The police investigation revealed that 71-year-old Alden Jones was driving in an extremely aggressive manner, cutting off other drivers while driving at high speeds. Jones was also armed with a handgun, and when he stopped at a traffic light, witnesses say he exited his vehicle brandishing the gun and started pounding on the driver’s side window of the car behind him with his gun. 

Thirty-six-year-old Ricky Frizzell, Jr. was the driver in the car behind the vehicle that Jones was pounding on. Frizzell told police that he yelled for Jones to stop his erratic behavior, but Jones instead began walking toward Frizzell in a menacing manner, still holding the handgun. Frizzell said that he warned Jones to not come any closer, and told him that he was also armed and would shoot Jones if he didn’t stop. Jones ignored Frizzell’s warnings and kept advancing. Frizzell told police that he was in fear for his life and that of his wife, who was seated in the passenger seat of his car, so he pulled out his own gun and shot Jones. Jones collapsed to the ground and was later pronounced dead. 

Frizzell immediately called 911, waited at the scene for police, and fully cooperated with law enforcement. The incident was captured on the surveillance cameras of nearby businesses, and police say other witnesses on the scene corroborated what Frizzell and his wife told police. Even though it appears that the shooting was justified self-defense, a criminal investigation still needs to be completed, and the case will be forwarded to the Nashville District Attorney to decide if the shooting was justified.
