Gun-grabbers Put Rights in Bullseye

Item: Following the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California, in which 14 people were killed and 22 wounded, the president of the United States let it be known that he wanted to impose — via executive action — greater restrictions on gun purchases. As the Los Angeles Times reported on December 3, 2015: “White House officials are seeking a way to use executive authority to close the so-called gun show loophole that allows thousands of people to buy firearms each year without a background check.”

Item: The attorney general of the United States said the killings demonstrated that political action was needed to prevent similar such incidents. Said Loretta Lynch at a press conference in Washington, as recorded by Fox News on December 3: “We’re at the point where these issues have come together really like never before in law enforcement thought and in our nation’s history and it gives us a wonderful opportunity and a wonderful moment to really make significant change.”

Item: A writer for the leftist New Republic magazine went full bore about what the federal government should do because of “gun violence.” In a piece on December 20, 2015, Phoebe Maltz Bovy demanded unequivocally:
