The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said 2.3 million Gaza residents face “immediate possibility of starvation” due to lack of supplies. According to the UN, the imminent crisis has been a result of Israel restricting fuel supplies, causing communication blackouts, and blocking the food trucks into Gaza during their ongoing military operations.
WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain said, “Supplies of food and water are practically non-existent in Gaza and only a fraction of what is needed is arriving through the borders. With winter fast approaching, unsafe and overcrowded shelters, and the lack of clean water, civilians are facing the immediate possibility of starvation,” and stated that opening another passage into Gaza for humanitarian aid is necessary to meet the need for food.
Israel’s war cabinet agreed today that it would allow two fuel trucks per day into Gaza “for UN needs,” after U.S. officials pushed Israel to allow the fuel to be delivered. An Israeli official told Reuters the two trucks would give “minimal” support to Gaza, and the Israeli assault would not slow down, stating they are allowing the humanitarian support to be delivered in order to continue their operations in Gaza to eradicate Hamas.
