UN on Verge of Bankruptcy as U.S. Withholds $4 Billion in Fees

The United States is withholding more than $4 billion in unpaid dues to the United Nations, whose leaders are warning that the globalist organization is on the verge of collapse. Ending the UN would be among the greatest contributions to Americans — nay, to the world — on behalf of the Donald Trump administration.

To its credit, the second Trump administration has caused more problems for the UN than any other before it. But red-pilled patriots should remain sober and avoid becoming overly hopeful. This type of wailing from UN leaders is the same script we heard back in January, just days before Trump signed a government spending bill that included $3.1 billion for the UN.

As of now, it appears that only a small portion of that money was sent to Brussels, just $160 million. According to The Wall Street Journal, “The U.S. says it is conditioning future financial support on deeper savings, with more job cuts, less business-class travel and greater use of machine translators.”

But the UN has made “historically large spending cuts and embarked on an efficiency drive,” The Journal tell us. It has closed offices and eliminated 3,000 secretarial positions. It has implemented troop drawdawns in the Congo. The UN has even “powered down escalators and ignored loose cladding on its 75-year-old headquarters in New York,” we are told.

The UN is made up of 193 member states that fund 40,000 programs and employ (as of December 2025) nearly 173,000 employees.

American Money

The United States has historically provided up to 30 percent of all UN funding. In 2022, Americans doled out $18 billion to the UN. The following year, in 2023, it was $13 billion. In the late 1940s, just after the UN was created, the United States paid 40 percent of the UN’s regular budget. All this money, we should remember, is being sent out while the national debt grows to heights that threaten to catapult the country off a financial cliff.

A lot has changed since 2023. A UN budget report from May breaks down who’s paying their dues, who’s not, and how much the delinquent countries owe. At the top of the delinquent list is the United States. America owes more than $2 billion to the UN’s regular budget. A distant second is China, which owes $429 million. Japan is a distant third with $152 million in unpaid dues. As for the peacekeeping budget, the United States owes another $2.2 billion, with China behind in dues by $870 million. The United States also owes $44 million in tribunal fees.

In total, the UN is facing a $6.4 billion budget hole, with the United States owing a majority of that. China’s delays aren’t helping.

Race to Bankruptcy

UN leaders are warning that the supranational organization is on the verge of financial collapse. According to the Journal, Secretary-General António Guterres said the UN is in a “race to bankruptcy” and that there’s a “very real prospect of the financial collapse of our organization.” The UN says it is on path to be broke by mid-August.

China says it will pay its dues. Meanwhile, the United States appears to holding out for more cuts before sending its dues. Senior State Department official Michael G. DeSombre told the UN Security Council on Tuesday, “What we are working toward is not a rejection of multilateralism, but putting clarity and results over inefficiency and hollow words.”

DeSombre’s comment reflects general talking points emanating from the Trump administration, i.e., that the UN is a good idea that just needs a few tweaks in the accounting department. This is similar to the popular pro-communist argument that communism just needs to be implemented the right way and it’ll work.

World Government

The UN was established in 1945, right after World War II, by communists, including Alger Hiss. Every secretary general since Hiss has been a socialist or outright communist, including the current one. The selling point to the public at the time was that the UN would foster peace and prevent another world war. Americans, weary of war, bought the pitch. Meanwhile, year after year, decade by decade, the UN grew its tentacles of influence and control and wrapped them on every continent.

The UN is a Trojan horse for world government. It has served as the wellspring of some of the most damaging campaigns and trends around the world. The UN has funded, in part, the destructive mass migration campaigns ravaging Europe and the one that nearly destroyed the United States during the Joe Biden years. It is the organization that has played the largest role in the climate hysteria that continues to plague the economies of Western Europe to this day. Its “peacekeepers” have faced allegations of rape and other abuse around the world for decades, all while UN courts are said to have looked the other way. Its “public health” wing, the World Health Organization, imposed Chinese-style totalitarian measures during the Covid era, including compulsory vaccine campaigns. The UN has also been at the center of internet censorship campaigns.

Get US Out!

It would be beneficial for the entire world if the UN were to go bankrupt and close down. That would eliminate the need for an act of Congress for the United States to exit the organization. But in the likelihood that the United States will indeed pay the billions it has already allocated to the UN, Americans need to stay vigilant. They need to continue creating understanding about what the UN really is and pressure for an exit through an act of Congress. As of now, there are two bills, one in the House and one in the Senate, written to end U.S. membership in the UN. Americans should call their legislators and tell them to support S 3428 and HR 7806.
