Lib Politician Pushes Mass Migration, Then Loses Nomination to Immigrant. Now He Alleges Vote Fraud.

Some would call it “progress.” Others would say it’s poetic justice or being hoist with your own petard. Whatever you call it, it certainly is ironic.

First, a liberal Canadian politician pushes mass Third World migration because, well, Diversity™. Then guess what just happened this past Saturday?

That man, Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, the favorite to win what essentially was a primary, got diversified right out of a political-office opportunity by an immigrant.

Oh, he also alleges that the immigrant, Ahsanul Hafiz, conspired with another diversifying candidate to rank-choice him into oblivion. He further implies that his defeat was partially effected via vote fraud. Writer C. Douglas Golden, exhibiting more than a smidgen of schadenfreude, reported on the story Tuesday at The Western Journal:

Erskine-Smith, a former Canadian Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities who served under both Prime Ministers Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney, was supposed to be a shoo-in for the nomination for a by-election in Ontario for the left-wing Liberal Party.

Translation: He’s a typical white, Canadian establishment leftist who would import Third World-immigrant voters-to-be to cement his own political power. Ah, but what a tangled web. As Golden explains:

Instead, the open-borders advocate got beaten by a Bangladeshi immigrant pizza shop owner — and he’s complaining about ID issues while voting. Whoa, pal, getting into a bit of denialism there, aren’t you?

Erskine-Smith, who had been a member of Parliament for a neighboring seat — or “riding,” as they’re known in Canada’s idiot nomenclature — had meant the nomination in the Scarborough Southwest riding to be “a first checkpoint en route to the party’s leadership,” according to the Oakville, Ontario, News.

… “After a full day of ranked ballot voting to select the riding’s Liberal candidate in the upcoming provincial byelection, [however,] Hafiz emerged victorious with 718 votes, followed by Beaches-East York Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith with 699 votes by the third ballot of the ranked count. Other candidates seeking nomination were Qadira Jackson and Mahmuda Nasrin,” Beach Metro reported Saturday.

Ranked-choice voting, by the way, is all the rage in left-wing political circles. It’s a stroke of genius, obviously. Average voters are so informed, after all, that we definitely need to imbue balloting with string-theory-level complexity.

Not Ranked Choice’s Rank Choice

As to Erskine-Smith’s gripes, the CBC informed Saturday:

The local campaign was tense, with apparent coalitions forming between candidates in a bid to defeat Erskine-Smith. Jackson and Hafiz appeared to have struck a verbal agreement of support in a bid to block the MP from winning. They both urged their supporters to back the other candidate as their second choice on their ranked ballots.

… Erskine-Smith raised the possibility of challenging the results of Hafiz’s win.

“There was a ton of scrutineers in there, lots of stories about what’s happened inside, but I’ve got to debrief,” he said in the rainy parking lot of the school where the voting took place, after initially trying to dodge reporters.

“I’ve spoken to a few scrutineers already who said they’ve never seen anything like it, and it’s unreal what happened in there.”

He suggested there was a large number of voters with “ID issues.”…

What follows is a clip of Erskine-Smith complaining about how he was done dirty.

Now, Golden points out that there’s an upside to Hafiz’s victory. That is, he immigrated to Canada approximately 25 years ago and now owns about 30 Domino’s pizza establishments. This means he works for a living and contributes to the economy. He’s not a hyphenated-last-name creature of government who has spent his life seeking power and living off the taxpayer teat.

One of the many downsides is that Hafiz apparently plays the victim game with aplomb. He said during a Saturday speech, for example, that certain opportunities “do not exist” for immigrants. Yes, well, if he were Anglo white, perhaps he’d have 47 Domino’s franchises, is the idea.

Ironically, though, Erskine-Smith has likely opined likewise. He’s now learning, too, that because of his own policies, certain opportunities are gradually ceasing to exist for legacy Canadians. Note here, Golden relates, that Erskine-Smith has his own podcast, on which he has touted the “economics of Canadian immigration.” Immigration, he believes, can ensure Canada’s economy stays “competitive” and “resilient.”

But as commentator Daniel Greenfield pointed out Monday:

If Erskine-Smith had been serious about checking IDs at the border, he wouldn’t have been replaced by the people who invaded Canada. By the time they’re inside and at the voting booth, it’s much too late.

Now he just got a lesson in the political economics of mass migration. And Canadians won’t be competitive or resilient. Just replaced.

The United States’ Many Erskine-Smiths

Lest you think this is just a Canadian phenomenon, well, let your heart be troubled. In fact, an entire U.S. city government got “Erskine-Smithed” in 2021.

Before getting to that, however, a bit of history. Leftists the Western world over became enamored of Third World immigration many decades ago upon discovering that the newcomers would largely vote for them upon being naturalized. This presumably would enable them to advance their woke agenda. As a liberal British political figure put it in 2009, the massive Third World migration into the U.K. was orchestrated by his Labour Party to, in part, “rub the Right’s nose in diversity and render their arguments out of date.” How is this working out?

Just ask the former Democratic leaders of Hamtramck, Michigan. In 2013, the approximately 28,000-strong locality became the first majority Muslim U.S. community. Then, in 2021, it became the first American municipality with an all-Muslim government (also Democrats). And what was one of the first things it did upon ousting the legacy libs who’d previously run the place?

The new leaders banned the display of “pride” flags on public property.

They also:

  • publicly backed efforts in 2022 to remove sexual devolutionary (“LGBTQ+”) books from schools;
  • fired two white liberal Human Relations Commission members in 2023 for defying the flag ban; and
  • the same year, legalized ritual animal sacrifice in backyards, garages, and homes.

“But You Said You’d Respect Us in the Morning”

The disempowered white liberals were shocked and dismayed. As The Guardian reported in 2023:

“There’s a sense of betrayal,” said the former Hamtramck mayor Karen Majewski, who is Polish American. “We supported you when you [the Muslims] were threatened, and now our rights are threatened, and you’re the one doing the threatening.”

Also warranting mention is New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani, a communist Muslim immigrant who didn’t become a citizen till 2018. Nonetheless, he was elected in 2025 to lead America’s largest metropolis, besting big-name Democrat Andrew Cuomo in the process.

Oh, Cuomo just complained about Mamdani to Bill O’Reilly this week. He said that Mr. Mayor is a radical — not a “moderate” such as himself. (Never mind that Cuomo helped enable the world’s Mamdanis.)

Well, as is (almost) said, the best-laid schemes of mice and dirty rats often go awry.
