It did not take Los Angeles County’s newly-elected district attorney, George Gascon, long to show his true colors. Now, like his principal political sponsor, Governor Gavin Newsom, the far-Left DA is facing a recall by a citizenry outraged over his policies of turning criminals (including convicted murderers) loose and refusing to prosecute serious crimes. Most Los Angeles voters were not counting on this when they voted for this “criminal justice reform” candidate.
On March 11, the RecallGeorgeGascon campaign announced that Gascon “has officially been served with a notice of intention to circulate a recall petition. The formal service triggers the final steps leading up to the approval and public circulation of official recall petitions. Once the recall petition is approved, proponents will have 160 days to collect 580,000 signatures from registered voters in Los Angeles County.”
“George Gascon’s failure to protect our most vulnerable communities is a complete dereliction of his foremost duty as a District Attorney, and he must be removed from office immediately before he can do any more damage,” said Tania Owen, Co-Chair of the Recall George Gascon campaign. “What George Gascon is doing is not criminal justice reform; it is the outright destruction of our criminal justice system and the very laws meant to protect us.”

Soros’s Man
Gascon, who ran one of the most expensive DA races in the country, was boosted with massive funding infusion from pro-communist, New York-based billionaire George Soros, totaling more than $2.5 million. On November 6 he defeated DA Jackie Lacey, an 8-year incumbent who was the county’s first black female district attorney.
Although a Democrat and viewed by many to be a “progressive” Democrat, Lacey was not radical enough for the Soros-funded extreme Left. Leading cadres of Black Lives Matter, the National Lawyers Guild, and the ACLU relentlessly attacked her. Two of California’s most high-profile (and most radical) black women in political office, U.S. Representative Maxine Waters of Los Angeles and then-U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, endorsed her opponent, Gascon. Gavin Newsom, while he was mayor of San Francisco, appointed Gascon as the city’s Chief of Police in 2009, initiating his political ascent. Two years later, when Kamala Harris moved up to become California’s attorney general, Mayor Newsom appointed Gascon to fill her vacant post as DA for San Francisco.
Extremist Endorsements
Governor Newsom endorsed Gascon in his L.A. District attorney bid, as did a long list of ultra-Left politicos from California and across the nation, including: U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.); Mayors Eric Garcetti (Los Angeles), Robert Garcia (Long Beach, Calif.), Alejandra Cortez (Bell Gardens, Calif.), and John Harabedian {Sierra Madre, Calif.); U.S. Representatives Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Rho Khanna (Calif.), Tony Cardenas (Calif.), Alan Lowenthal (Calif.), and Nannette Barragan (Calif.); Hollywood activists Alyssa Milano, John Legend, Patricia Arquette, Kerry Washington, Sophia Bush, and Ava DuVernay; and professional revolutionaries such as Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Patrisse Cullors, Dolores Huerta, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Megan Rapinoe, and Susan Burton.
Also hurting the incumbent, Jackie Lacey, was the unusual step taken by a number of California Democrat heavyweights who rescinded their earlier endorsements of her. That included L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, U.S. Representative Adam Schiff, and Assemblywoman Laura Friedman. The announcements of these reversals seemed strategically timed to do the most damage, signaling to Democrat voters that Lacey, once favored for re-election, was now toxic.
Notably, also endorsing Gascon were a bevy of the radical new prosecutors from across the nation whom Soros and his billionaire comrades of the Democracy Alliance have put in office: Chesa Boudin (San Francisco), Larry Krasner (Philadelphia), Karl Racine (Washington, D.C.), Rachel Collins (Boston-Suffolk County), Kim Foxx (Chicago-Cook County), John Chisholm (Milwaukee), Satana Deberry (Durham County, N.C.), and Mark Gonzalez (Nueces County, Texas). The agenda of Gascon, Boudin, Krasner, et al. closely aligns with the announced agenda of Black Lives Matter, Antifa, DisruptJ20, and other groups on the far Left that make up what they loosely call The Resistance. That agenda is to “Make America Ungovernable,” which they certainly are achieving with their ongoing riots, disruptions, arson, and mayhem in dozens of cities across the nation. Radical Left prosecutors who look the other way and refuse to arrest or prosecute the rioters are knowingly assisting their communist comrades in the effort to make the nation ungovernable.
Why Are Voter Surprised? Answer: Fake News Cover-up
What did Los Angeles County voters expect? Gascon’s record was clear. He had already left a trail of destruction during his eight-year reign as DA in San Francisco. Katy Grimes, longtime investigative journalist and editor of the California Globe, summarized his mayhem in the City by the Bay:
Under Gascón as San Francisco District Attorney:
• property crimes increased nearly 50%;
• auto thefts in San Francisco jumped to 10% of the statewide average;
• San Francisco had the highest property crime in the state;
• violent crime was 54% higher than the rest of the state and 82% higher than the national average;
• drug addiction soared.
However, Los Angeles voters were largely ignorant of Gascon’s appalling record. Why? Well, perhaps one of the best explanations can be found in his list of media endorsers: Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Daily News, Pasadena Star-News, Long Beach Press-Telegram, Whittier Daily News, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Torrance Daily Breeze, Malibu Times, La Opinion, and more. Naturally, these endorsing “news” organizations did not bother to enlighten their audiences with the damning truth about the record of the candidates they were endorsing.
