In a failed attempt to block television viewers from seeing just how inept Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris is at answering easy questions, CBS News edited a 60 Minutes interview by cutting out a trademark gibberish answer to a question, then inserting an entirely new answer.

Video of the two answers went viral on social media.

The faked answer also appears on the transcript at CBSNews.com.

The incomprehensible nonsense that Harris disgorged is not unusual. Such is Harris’ inability to handle interviews that she couldn’t explain a vice president’s job to far-left, late-night talker Stephen Colbert.

Word Salad

CBS manufactured the phony answer for a question about Israel from correspondent Bill Whitaker.

“We supply Israel with billions of dollars in military aid, and yet Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu seems to be charting his own course,” he said:

The Biden-Harris administration has pressed him to agree to a ceasefire. He’s resisted. You urged him not to go into Lebanon. He went in anyway. Does the U.S. have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?

“The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles,” Harris said.

Editors also shortened Whitaker’s question to exclude mention of Iran. But in any event, Whitaker pressed Harris.

“But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening,” he said.

Here is Harris’ original answer, which ran as a promo on Face the Nation on Sunday.

Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.

“But when CBS aired the interview on Monday night,” Fox News observed, “Harris had a different answer to the exact same question.”

That’s the answer that appeared in the official transcript:

We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.

The faked answer rocketed across social media, as anyone would expect, opening CBS to claims of election interference.

“On Sunday, 60 Minutes teased Kamala’s highly-anticipated sit-down interview with one of her worst word salads to date, which received significant criticism on social media,” said Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign:

During the full interview on Monday evening, the word salad was deceptively edited to lessen Kamala’s idiotic response. Why did 60 Minutes choose not to air Kamala’s full word salad, and what else did they choose not to air? The American people deserve the full, unedited transcript from Kamala’s sit-down interview. We call upon 60 Minutes and CBS to release it. What do they, and Kamala, have to hide?

Answer: Harris’ rank incompetence, her inability to handle herself without a teleprompter, and her obvious unpreparedness to step into the presidency.

Colbert’s Question, Repeating Herself

Harris blew it again when she appeared on Stephen Colbert’s program on Tuesday.

“Well, your opponent and his vice president, the other night in the debate, said, well, Kamala Harris has been Vice President for three and a half years, why hasn’t she fixed everything already?” the giddy fangirl asked:

Can you describe to them what the job of vice president is like? And what have you told Tim Walz  about the job? Have you described to him the vast powers vested in the vice presidency?

Like so much of what Harris says in reply to questions, the answer was a nonanswer.

“I have pointed out through my three and a half years of being vice president that it’s vice president,” Harris replied:

There are a lot of responsibilities that you take on. But did you see the kid who was interviewed after the debate? Oh, you have to see it, Stephen. He gave a total civics lesson about the role of vice president.

Which is a lot more than Harris did.

Harris frequently repeats herself when speaking extemporaneously.

When Americans held by Russia landed at Joint Base Andrews after a prisoner exchange, Harris delivered an incomprehensible string of words that her campaign was forced to correct.

“This is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy,” Harris said.

No worries, though. The Harris Campaign recovered the fumble and ginned up a translation:

This is an extraordinary day and I’m very thankful for our president. This is an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and strengthening alliances. This is an incredible day and you can see it in the families and in their eyes.

Another Harris classic was her description of community banks. “The importance of community banks is they are, as they are called, they’re in the community, led by members of the community,” she said. “They are people who understand the capacity of the community, the needs of the community, the culture of the community.”

And she pontificated on the “significance of time” in 2022:

The significance of the passage of time. So, when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time in terms of what we need to do to lay these wires, what we need to do to create these jobs. And there is such great significance to the passage of time when we think about a day in the life of our children.
