More state and local officials are inviting federal agents to arrest them for harboring illegal aliens.
Joining the nationwide criminal conspiracy to thwart President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan, the governor of Oregon, Tina Kotek; the mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey; and the city elders of San Francisco vowed not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
In so doing, they risk arrest for violating the federal statute that forbids harboring illegal aliens. Whether the Trump Justice Department will prosecute those officials is unknown. Border Czar Tom Homan has warned the officials that they will be arrested.
Frey: We Love Illegals
Far-left Democrat subversive Frey ruled out the city’s cooperation with federal authorities.
“I want to speak directly to people who are undocumented,” he said. “We love you. We care about you. In the city of Minneapolis, we will stand up for you and we will do anything in our power to help because you’re not an alien; in our city you’re a neighbor.”
Then Frey explained the city’s unlawful policy not to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement:
Now, in Minneapolis we have what is called a separation ordinance. And that separation ordinance states clearly that our city officials, our police officers and beyond will not be gathering information showing who is and is not documented.
We do not ask the question with regards to immigration status and, because we haven’t asked the question, we don’t have any data to show documentation status in our city. Our police officers will not be cooperating with federal law enforcement around federal immigration law. We enforce state and local laws here in Minneapolis, and we will do so to the best of our ability. But as for cooperation with ICE, the answer is no.
Standing behind Frey was U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, the radical, hate-America, Somali refugee who represents Minnesota’s 5th district.
The beturbaned Omar’s appearance was something of a droll complement to Frey’s announcement that he would openly violate 8 US Code 1324. She’s candid about her main job in Congress: Representing Somalia as an agent of influence. But beyond that, Omar married her brother to commit student-loan and immigration fraud.
Oregon Governor: Illegal Aliens Have “Birthright”
Two days ago, Kotek warned Trump that she “will not back down from a fight whether it’s access to reproductive and gender-affirming health care, staying on our path to reach our climate goals, protecting immigrant communities, upholding our civil liberties, and fighting for prosperity for every Oregonian.”
“All of us,” she said, must “feel safe and secure in our home and communities,” and that goes double for illegal aliens:
Our immigrant communities are Oregon communities. Immigrants are integral to the culture and success of Oregon. I will uphold Oregon’s Sanctuary Promise laws, laws that were passed with almost unanimous bipartisan support in the 1980s.
Riffing off the fake Trump-will-separate-families narrative, the mannish lesbian said she believes that illegal-alien children are “Americans,” and that she supported the 22-state lawsuit that seeks to overturn the president’s order revoking birthright citizenship.
“To our immigrant friends and neighbors, as your governor, I see you, I stand with you, and I’ve got your back,” she said. “You are Oregon and a part of what makes our state such a fantastic place to call home.”
San Francisco
Last week, the sheriff of San Francisco, Paul Miyamoto, posted a YouTube message to tell illegals that he, like Kotek, had their back.
“My office does not assist in Immigration raids,” he said, noting that his only assistance to federal authorities is responding to requests regarding the date the city will release a violent felon from jail, and “then only if that person meets criteria defined in local law.”
The illegal-alien criminal, he said, has to have been “convicted of a violent felony in the past seven years, or a serious felony in the past three years, or three felonies from three separate incidents in the past five years, and a judge has determined there’s probable cause to believe the individual is guilty of a felony other than domestic violence.”
Presumably, that means the sheriff would free an illegal alien who raped a woman in 2015 and landed a 10-year sentence, for he committed the crime more than seven years ago.
Miyamoto will determine when he cooperates with federal officials in removing violent criminals. And ICE, he said, does not have “unlimited access inside our jails.”
City elders held a news conference two days ago, where Miyamoto reiterated his commitment to shielding illegal aliens from federal authorities.
An Asian woman with a foreign accent stood up to say that “San Francisco is a sanctuary city. San Francisco will always be a sanctuary city.”
Other speakers said they stand by “immigrants,” a far-left tactic to conflate illegal aliens and legal immigrants.
Chicago
Sheriffs in Illinois were not as enthusiastic as Miyamoto about illegals, and said far-left Governor JB Pritzker’s edict not to help ICE endangered the community, although he seemed to back down after a raid netted 250 violence illegal aliens, Bloomberg reported.
In Chicago, a reporter asked Mayor Brandon Johnson why it was so easy for ICE to find a sex offender who refused to register with the state and lived in the city for nine years, but he, the mayor, could not.
“Because that’s their job.”
Any state or local official who refuses to cooperate with ICE violates, again, 8 US Code 1324, which forbids harboring illegals and covers anyone “knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation.”
Other state and local officials are those in Boston, Denver, Seattle, and San Diego County.
On Monday, U.S. House Oversight Committee chief James Comer of Kentucky wrote letters to city mayors to request documents about sanctuary policies and invite them to appear before his committee in February.
