Fauci Documented His Own Celebrity — and the Coverup

When he retired, “America’s doctor” Anthony Fauci probably wanted to disappear into a quiet existence and never be held accountable for his role in creating one of the nation’s darkest eras. But one lawmaker appears especially determined to make sure that doesn’t happen.

On Saturday, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) released to the public an 1,100-page document with entries from Dr. Fauci’s diary during his time as the nation’s leader of the Covid-19 response. Paul’s document illustrates at least two main themes. The first is that what Fauci said in public about the origins of the virus did not reflect the general perception among many of the experts he interacted with. Secondly, Fauci reveled in the international fame he achieved at the time.  

Paul’s document was released just days before Fauci is scheduled to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Fauci has been subpoenaed to appear before the committee, chaired by Paul, on Wednesday.

Origin Story

According to the document, Fauci knew early on that the Covid-19 virus could have been the result of gain-of-function experimentation. On January 31, 2020, he was patched into a call with three scientists. “They were not trading internet rumors. They were staring at the furin-cleavage site, discussing deliberate insertion and weighing whether the virus had escaped from a laboratory,” says the document. “Before most Americans knew there was an origins debate, the government’s top infectious-disease official was already confronting the lab scenario.”

The next day, Fauci held a call with several scientists and Health and Human Services officials. Only two people “argued for a natural origin.” Nevertheless, the natural origin theory is where Fauci drove the public narrative.

Paul’s document mentions a July 7, 2021, meeting between Fauci and intelligence officials. The intel people believed the virus came from a lab. After this, Fauci directed scientists who were pushing the natural origins theory to influence the FBI to believe it as well. This is consistent with what Paul told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo a few weeks ago. Paul said:

We know that the initial estimate by the scientists at the CIA was that this came from the lab. They agreed with our supposition, but Anthony Fauci was able to coerce, cajole, persuade, and dangle money to get people in the intelligence community to change their vote. So, a scientific commission within the CIA voted 6 to 1 to say it came from the lab. He somehow was able to get that change. We have evidence of that happening.

When Bartiromo asked how Fauci managed to persuade intel officials to peddle his propaganda, Paul said it came down to his the power to turn on or off the spigot of government funding. Paul:

One of the scientists got an $8 million grant 2 months after they switched their private position from believing it came from the lab to the public. With the CIA, it was more the idea that a lot of things are funded within the CIA in general. Grants that go to the secret Defense Department grants as well as CIA involvement in gain-of-function research. And I think he was so intimately involved with that ever since 9/11 really. He became involved with the bio labs, bio arms, everything around the world he had his hands in and he had the power to come in and talk to their superiors and reverse the decision from the scientists. So, I’m not saying specifically money was given to anybody, but I think in general he was able to use the manipulation and the threat of withholding funds to get his way even with the intelligence agencies.

Fauci’s Fame

For anyone who thought that Fauci exhibited narcissistic behavior, the diary entries bolster those suspicions. There are numerous entries of Fauci enjoying the attention. For example, in March 5, 2020, he wrote:

I am pretty safe, I believe since tthe public adulation of me has been amazing with every young intern as well as seasoned veteran in the WH coming over to me congratulating me and thanking me for my work and even asking for selfies.

On March 21, he documented how pleased he was with a fawning legacy-media outlet profile and declared himself an international figure of fame. Fauci:

Big front page article about me appeared in the Washington Post. Very flattering. The situation with my national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable. It is not hyperbole to say that today I am the most famous and talked about person in the country and one of the most recognizable person in the world. Countless profiles on me in multiple media. I cannot even read all the things that are written about me since I am so busy….seriously. POTUS seems to be enamored of me even though I am taking the spotlight away from him. We are developing a very unique and interesting relationship.

In March 22, Fauci wrote, “Press is going wild with me.”

On April 7, 2020, Fauci wrote, “Press still hot and heavy about me. Multiple stories per day directly or indirectly involving me.”

What He Deserves

For Paul, the goal is to give Fauci what he deserves. As he told Bartiromo, the pardon Fauci received from the Biden administration should be challenged so he can be held accountable. Paul put it this way:

It’s a pardon that goes over 10 years and doesn’t have specific crimes. So, a 10-year pardon on non-specific crimes, I wonder whether or not that is the intention the Constitution had when they gave the pardon power. But it has to be challenged. Me saying it is not enough. You would have to actually go to court and challenge the validity of it. There also is some question, did President Biden — was he aware of who Anthony Fauci was? Did he specifically understand the details of the case and grant Anthony Fauci a pardon? Or did a low-level assistant with an autopen do this without consultation with the president? I don’t know all the facts on that, but I think it’s worth coming out. He should be asked about the pardon. If he comes, if he obeys the law and the subpoena, if he comes to my committee, we will ask him about the pardon.

On Wednesday, the cameras will once again be turned on Fauci. But this time there will be less fawning, and the once-famous doctor will be less likely to enjoy the attention.
