A grassroots group of private landowners, threatened by the prospect of eminent domain for hazardous carbon-capture pipelines, is gathering signatures on a petition to Congress.

They want our legislators to end the IRS 45Q tax credit for private companies that install the wasteful projects.

The credit contains a direct-pay loophole, meaning that these private companies can use eminent domain to fleece taxpayers to the tune of billions of dollars. It’s a problem that will soon visit every state in the Union, as the Department of Energy has already announced some 96,000 miles of pipeline planned to meet Net Zero emissions targets.

“There are too many x-factors in this technology,” Karen Feridun, who launched the petition, told The New American. “A tax subsidy that promotes this only benefits large, wealthy corporations.”

The verbiage of the petition is below, and you can sign it here. Also, remember to register for the April 22 (Earth Day) premiere showing of UNearthing the CO2 Pipeline, produced by The John Birch Society, which exposes the nefarious agenda behind this government boondoggle masquerading as a moral cause.

Opposed Dangerous Carbon Capture Subsidies

We, the undersigned, support a repeal of the federal 45Q tax credit, a massive waste of what would be hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars that benefits private corporations and billionaires while putting communities across the country at risk from dangerous carbon capture infrastructure.

Despite receiving billions in public subsidies, carbon capture remains an expensive and dangerous industry. CO2 pipelines and storage sites pose serious safety hazards, with leaks and ruptures threatening public health, local economies and emergency response systems.

We must repeal the 45Q tax credit and stop wasting public money on a dangerous and ineffective industry.

Why is this important?

The carbon capture industry is a dangerous boondoggle, and taxpayers are footing the bill. The federal 45Q tax credit for carbon capture is handing billions of dollars to this dangerous industry, while putting communities at serious risk of harm.

From dangerous pipeline ruptures to groundwater threats and eminent domain abuse, carbon capture is a threat to communities across the country. Investigators show the 45Q tax credits are riddled with fraud, with potential for companies to claim tax credits for carbon storage that never happened. Industry goals for carbon capture development would result in over $800 billion in tax credits for this dangerous industry, with little to no accountability.

Congress has a chance right now to stop this massive waste and protect public health. Sign the petition to demand your lawmakers repeal the 45Q tax credit.
