On Sunday, just in time for New York City’s “Pride” march, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation that will make it illegal for New York authorities to cooperate with states that have restrictions against “gender affirming” therapies for children. Senate Bill S 2475B prohibits even the consideration of cooperating with states that have outlawed such dangerous, life altering, and risky procedures on children.
Hochul also signed legislation that mandates the use of “preferred pronouns” by all state employees.
Specifically, the new law
Prohibits consideration of a law of another state that authorizes a child to be removed from their parent or guardian based on the parent or guardian allowing their child to receive gender-affirming care in custody cases; prohibits law enforcement agencies from cooperating with or providing information to any individual or out-of-state agency or department regarding the provision of lawful gender-affirming care performed in this state; prohibits the issuance of a subpoena in connection with certain out-of-state proceedings relating to seeking health or related information about people who come to New York to receive gender-affirming care; prohibits the arrest of a person for performing or aiding in the lawful performance of gender-affirming care within this state.
Hochul framed the Empire State as the “birthplace” of the modern LGBTQ movement.
“As the birthplace of the modern movement for LGBTQ+ rights, New York is proud to protect, defend and affirm our LGBTQ+ community,” the governor said. “From Stonewall to Marriage Equality to GENDA, New Yorkers have been on the forefront of the fight for equal rights. Now, as other states target LGBTQ+ people with bigotry and fearmongering, New York is fighting back. These new laws will enshrine our state as a beacon of hope, a safe haven for trans youth and their families, and ensure we continue to lead the nation on LGBTQ+ rights.”
The new law essentially makes New York a sanctuary state for so-called transgendered children and their parents.
“The Trans Safe Haven bill is a necessary response to the efforts of other states across the country to curtail the healthcare rights of transgender, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, and intersex individuals,” said New York Assemblyman Harry B. Bronson, a co-author of the legislation. “The Trans Safe Haven Law is a clear and unwavering statement that we will not be complicit in other state’s attempts to punish the provision of, receipt of, or support for gender-affirming care.”
But is this “gender-affirming care” what these children truly need?
“Children do not need these medical procedures to be able to flourish as adults,” said Tennessee House Majority Leader William Lamberth in arguing for a ban on such procedures in the Volunteer State. “They need mental health treatment. They need love and support, and many of them need to be able to grow up to become the individuals that they were intended to be.”
As if to underscore the threat to children in New York, TimCast News captured a group of drag marchers chanting, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children.”
The New York law would appear to be a direct response to states such as Texas that have taken action to prevent the barbaric and dangerous practice of allowing children to receive puberty blockers and hormone treatments, mastectomies and hysterectomies for girls, and castrations and vasectomies for boys.
At least 20 states have joined Texas with similar laws intended to shield children from transgender ideologues who seem intent on destroying their future reproductive capabilities.
New York, on the other hand, joins a growing list of states, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, New Mexico, and Minnesota, that have passed bills protecting these procedures, which are euphemistically referred to as “gender affirming care” for children.
The two sides of this particular issue could not be more diametrically opposed. One side argues that these risky, life-altering procedures are necessary so that children can feel comfortable in their own bodies and keep them from having suicidal thoughts. The other side argues that such procedures are the epitome of elective surgery, are not without serious health risks, are generally irreversible, and should be postponed until individuals can truly decide for themselves, as adults, whether to undergo them.
With so many cases of transgender regret being reported, isn’t the more measured and less invasive approach the way to go when it comes to “transgender” children?
