In a May 9, 2017 article on The New American website entitled “Trump Administration Announces Nominees to Federal Benches,” the Heritage Foundation is described as being a “conservative think tank” that has long advocated for a “constitutionalist” judiciary. The hard reality, however, is that the Heritage Foundation is no real friend of freedom.
On August 9, 2000, Edwin J. Feulner, founder and president of the Heritage Foundation, penned an article entitled “William F. Buckley, Jr.: An Appreciation,” in which he wrote the following: “It’s hard to overstate the importance of [Buckley’s] National Review, which offered respectable conservative opinion against communism, big government and liberal culture at a time when the most visible conservatives were such tragic figures as Sen. Joseph McCarthy and Robert Welch of the John Birch Society.”
If the Heritage Foundation were truly interested in conserving liberty under the U.S. Constitution, Feulner wouldn’t have simultaneously attacked McCarthy and Welch, who were two of the 20th century’s greatest heroes, and praised Buckley, who in 1952 wrote that “we have got to accept Big Government for the duration.”
