Mileage From CO2 Info

The April 3 article in The New American entitled “Coalitions for and Against CO2” was enlightening, but I had difficulty in relating the significance of the figures to those to whom I spoke until I made a comparison. Understanding the significance, or maybe better stated, the insignificance of man-made CO2 levels is difficult to visualize using the article’s numbers, but if you equated the Earth’s atmosphere with a 100-mile journey, the first 78 miles would be nitrogen, the second leg would be 21 miles of oxygen, and the third leg would be a little over a half mile of argon. All of the other gases would be in the last four-tenths of a mile, or about 2,100 feet, most of it being CO2. Of that final leg, the CO2 emitted from man-made sources would be seen in the last 68 feet. The Earth’s atmosphere is one of the most complex systems known to man, and increasingly scientists are admitting that we really don’t understand the significance of CO2 effects on climate. However, this has not slowed the liberal/progressive agenda. It is typical of what that political establishment is seeking to do: make mountains out of molehills.
