He served as secretary of state, became America’s fourth president, and was an able military leader who successfully steered America through the War of 1812 without violating the Constitution he played such a key role in bringing into existence. Incredibly, there is no monument to him in Washington, D.C., even though if anyone deserves one, it is him.
