“A View for a Room”

On December 8, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, installed murals by artist and cancer survivor Colleen Wall. These murals, part of Wall’s LandEscape series, were designed to provide comfort to chemotherapy patients by depicting serene, outdoor-inspired scenes, Good News Network reported.

The project, titled “A View for a Room — Transforming Healthcare Spaces,” began a decade ago as a Kickstarter-funded initiative. It was inspired by Wall’s experience as an artist-in-residence on the oncology floor of Women’s & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. A patient’s comment about the monotony of the hospital view prompted Wall to create art that brings elements of nature into healthcare settings.

The installation includes nine window murals and a 29-foot community mural, unveiled during National Arts & Health Month. Each mural features natural elements such as pathways and uplifting phrases to offer patients a sense of escape and hope during treatment.
