Understanding the Bill of Rights and how it serves as a bulwark against government encroachments on our fundamental rights is vitally important. That was true when this article by Colonel John Eidsmoe was originally published in our March 12, 2001 issue, and it is also true today. In fact, the case could easily be made that understanding the principles outlined in this article is, if not more important than before, at least more pressing, since the Bill of Rights is now under assault more than ever.

This assault became very transparent to many millions of Americans during the Covid-era lockdowns that extended even to the shuttering of churches in addition to the mandatory mask-wearing and vaccinations. Quickly on the heels of these rights violations came the weaponization of the law to go after political opponents, and the online censorship by the Big Tech-Big Government axis of views that do not fit the establishment line.

So please carefully read the following article — and then consider what you can do to save and restore our endangered freedoms. — Editor
