A terrifying story out of Hobbs, New Mexico, is a stark reminder of why it’s always good to have firearms in your home. KCBD.com reported on September 26 about a horrifying ordeal involving a man, later identified by police as 38-year-old Curtis Thames, who forced his way into a neighbor’s house in the middle of the night. The homeowners fled to a bedroom and barricaded themselves inside for protection. Thames allegedly was outside the bedroom trying to get in when the homeowners fired one shot through the door, which hit Thames and mortally wounded him. Police soon arrived and discovered the wounded suspect at the scene. Thames was transported to a nearby medical facility, but later succumbed to his gunshot wound.
Police searched Thames’ house, where they discovered his mother’s decapitated body. They believe a hacksaw was used in the crime. Police also discovered what they referred to as “a large amount of cocaine.”
The investigation is still ongoing, and Thames is the prime suspect in his mother’s murder. Police are still trying to piece together the details of that night, but one thing is certain: It’s a good thing the neighbors were able to defend themselves with a gun and not end up as victims in a deadly rampage.
