Defending the Constitution
The New American recently interviewed Republican U.S. Representative Harriet Hageman of Wyoming. On August 16, 2022, Hageman defeated then-incumbent Representative Liz Cheney in the Republican primary for the U.S. House of Representatives election in Wyoming. Hageman won the House election in 2022, and was reelected in a landslide in 2024.
Hageman boasts an impressive 93-percent lifetime score in The New American’s Freedom Index, which rates how members of Congress vote based on their fidelity to the Constitution. Contrast Hageman’s score to that of her predecessor. Upon leaving office, Cheney’s lifetime Freedom Index score was a meager 57 percent. It had progressively worsened with each Congress, going from a 62-percent cumulative score for the 115th Congress (2017-2018) to 51 percent for the 117th Congress (2021-2022). Whereas Cheney was a key member of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) J6 committee that covered up evidence that didn’t fit its narrative in order to unjustly target Trump supporters and conservative Americans, Hageman has distinguished herself as a leading champion in the fight against the weaponization of government and other schemes that threaten to undermine the Constitution.
