Best of Times, Worst of Times
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” So begins Charles Dickens’ epic historical novel A Tale of Two Cities, set before and during the French Revolution.
Undoubtedly many of our readers will find the novel’s first six words apropos to the way President Donald Trump seems to have single-handedly turned his predecessor’s policies upside down during his first few days back in office. For instance, on his first day he pardoned more than 1,500 J6ers who were vilified and prosecuted by the Biden Justice Department. Later the same week, he pardoned 23 pro-lifers who were prosecuted for peacefully blocking access to abortion chambers.
Trump has also taken executive action to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organization. He has ordered the release of all JFK, RFK, and MLK assassination files. He has also ordered the end of discriminatory DEI policies. He has reinstated the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding of abortion, and the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits U.S. aid to foreign organizations that perform or promote abortions.
