Arthur Daniel Crino, R.I.P.
August 23, 1924 – July 17, 2025
Tombstones reveal so little: name of the deceased, date of birth, and date of death. It seems such a dispassionate summary, especially considering that all the joys and sorrows, successes and failures, hopes and dreams that make up life are encapsulated in one small dash between the two dates.
Art Crino filled his dash with love of God, family, and country. He and his wife, Sally, joined The John Birch Society (JBS) in 1961. From membership he progressed to chapter leader and then section leader; in 1999 he was appointed to the JBS National Council. He also served on both the Society’s Executive Committee and its Speakers Bureau. The Crinos remained active in the JBS until very recently, yielding only to the demands of age and poor health. He departed this life just shy of his 101st birthday and on the first anniversary of his wife’s death, July 18. Their daughter, Linda, credits the timing to his romantic nature.
That characteristic came naturally to this son of Italian immigrants, born in Portland in 1924. His father had recently returned to their West Coast home, having served in the U.S. Army during the Great War. When its sequel ravaged the globe, Art followed in his father’s footsteps, but as a Seaman First Class in the Pacific Theater rather than a private on the Western Front.
