Abortion is one of the key issues the Democratic Party is aggressively pushing before the 2024 presidential election. Democrats claim Republicans will pass a federal abortion ban if they win in November. This claim has been amplified by the mainstream media, despite former President Donald Trump maintaining that the issue should be determined by the states following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. In addition to fearmongering about a federal abortion ban, Democrats are now claiming women are dying as a result of abortion restrictions in certain states.

Are anti-abortion laws really killing women who seek abortions? Ask yourself this question before examining the Democratic Party narrative around the case of Georgia resident Amber Nicole Thurman, a woman who tragically died following a medical emergency caused by the dangerous abortion drug mifepristone.

Democratic Party Narrative

On August 13, 2022, Thurman was provided a two-pill abortion regimen — mifepristone and misoprostol — by an abortion clinic in North Carolina. She was pregnant with twins, and her body did not properly expel the fetal remains. She developed a severe infection. On August 18, she vomited blood and passed out at her home. She was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia, where physicians waited 20 hours to perform a dilation and curettage operation, supposedly due to uncertainty over Georgia’s abortion law, HB 481, also known as the LIFE Act. Thurman subsequently died of sepsis.
