American Journalist Dies of Pneumonia in Ukrainian Prison
“Right now, I’m about to try to get out of Ukraine, and seek political asylum in Hungary,” American political commentator Gonzalo Lira tweeted from that border on July 31, the last day he posted to his X feed.
“Either I’ll cross the border and make it to safety, or I’ll be disappeared by the Kiev regime.”
He was right. In early January in a Ukrainian dungeon, he died of pneumonia brought on by the authorities refusing to provide medical care.
