A Turning Point for the Republic

In a recent interview on Fox News, former GOP congressman and House Speaker Newt Gingrich observed, “It’s about to hit the Left that everything they’ve done has failed … and therefore, there ought to be some kind of planning team on the conservative side that tries to imagine: If you were vicious, dishonest, desperate, had the power of the FBI, the power of the Justice Department — all the other powers that the establishment has — what would you do in the next four months? They’re not going to go down easily…. They’re going to say, ‘What is it we have to do to stop Trump and to stop the Trump movement?’ And given their track record from 2015 on, I really worry about how radical and how dangerous they’re going to be in the next five months.”

With former President Trump now convicted on 34 bogus felony charges and sentencing less than a month away at the time of this writing, 2024 is looking to be the most uncertain election year in American history, with no one sure quite what to expect in the months leading up to November 5. If past is prelude, as Gingrich implies, expect widespread electoral fraud and incendiary anti-Trump propaganda filling the airwaves and the internet. Indeed, we are already seeing a lot of the latter, with every establishment news outlet proclaiming that Trump intends to end “democracy” and turn himself into a dictator. A second Trump term, we are now being assured, would be the end of America as we know it, with MAGA being American-style fascism.

With such hyperbolic rhetoric apparently believed by a significant segment of the American population, it would be surprising if a Trump victory — now widely expected by pollsters, oddsmakers, and both the business and political classes — did not result in some form of civil unrest. After all, Τrump’s entire first term in office was marred by Marxist mob violence, often supported by Democrats in Congress and by anti-Trump elements in the media.
