Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the 2024 presidential election, with Harris making the announcement on X:
I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work. Join us.
Walz said being Harris’ vice presidential pick is an honor, stating on X:
It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharris in this campaign. I’m all in. Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us.
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) claimed Walz was a great asset to Harris’ campaign, stating on X:
@Tim_Walz is a great asset to @KamalaHarris ’ winning campaign & administration. He is a former public school teacher, football coach, and strong union supporter. As governor, he delivered for working families in MN. As VP, he will deliver for the working families of the US.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) responded to the announcement, and said Walz joined UAW during a strike last year, stating on X:
Tim Walz doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk. From delivering for working-class Americans to standing with the UAW on our picket line last year, we know which side he’s on. That’s why we’re going to send @KamalaHarris and @Tim_Walz to the White House this November.
