Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former MLB player Steve Garvey advanced in the California primary election yesterday, and will face each other in the general election for California’s U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Dianne Feinstein and now held by Laphonza Butler, who was appointed to fill the seat after Feinstein’s death last September.
After the primary victory, Schiff thanked California voters, stating on X, “Thank you, California!”
In his primary-night speech, Garvey, who is running as a Republican, stated, “Welcome to the California comeback. What you’re all feeling tonight is what its like to hit a walk off home run,” and encouraged his supporters to vote in the general election, stating, “Keep in mind, this is the first game of a double header, so keep the evening of November 5th open, as we will celebrate again.”
Schiff is focusing his campaign for Senate on ending alleged voter suppression, restoring voting rights for convicted felons, housing affordability, and the environment. Garvey’s has campaigned on addressing the homeless crisis, quality of life issues, crime, and public safety.
