At long last, American taxpayers will save at least some of the money they’ve thrown down the drain on the United Nations.
Yesterday, President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from two worthless subsidiaries of the communist-founded, anti-American organization. He is reviewing its membership in a third.
Those agencies are the UN Human Rights Council; the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Trump might also target other international organizations.
“Protected Human Rights Abusers”
Trump targeted the agencies because they are anti-American and anti-Israel, his executive order and the companion fact sheet say. He said in the order:
Some of the UN’s agencies and bodies have drifted from [its] mission and instead act contrary to the interests of the United States while attacking our allies and propagating anti-Semitism. As in 2018, when the United States withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the United States will reevaluate our commitment to these institutions.
Trump wrote that terrorists have “reportedly” penetrated UNRWA, and that its employees joined in the Hamas terror outfit’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. He said:
UNHRC has protected human rights abusers by allowing them to use the organization to shield themselves from scrutiny, while UNESCO has demonstrated failure to reform itself, has continually demonstrated anti-Israel sentiment over the past decade, and has failed to address concerns over mounting arrears.
Thus did Trump pull the U.S. out of UNHRC. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will shut down the office of the American representative to the terror-supporting outfit.
Rubio will also investigate UNESCO to determine whether it “supports United States interests,” and hunt for anti-Semitism and anti-Israel “sentiment” in the organization.
Trump permanently cut off funding for UNRWA. President Joe Biden stopped it after Israel accused it of participating in the Hamas attack.
Even better, Trump wrote:
Within 180 days of the date of this order, the Secretary, in consultation with the UN Ambassador, shall conduct a review of all international intergovernmental organizations of which the United States is a member and provides any type of funding or other support, and all conventions and treaties to which the United States is a party, to determine which organizations, conventions, and treaties are contrary to the interests of the United States and whether such organizations, conventions, or treaties can be reformed.
Rubio will report his findings to Trump through National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Then Trump will decide which organizations the U.S. will abandon.
More Details
The companion fact sheet offers more details about the “radical or anti-American sentiment” among the agencies.
UNESCO, for instance, has a “history of anti-Israel bias,” while UNRWA officials not only supported the October 7 Hamas attack but also provided logistical support. “UNRWA facilities have repeatedly been used by Hamas and other terrorist groups to store weapons and build tunnels,” the fact sheet avers.
Meanwhile, UNHRC is a cover for totalitarian regimes with a history of anti-American activity and human rights abuses. The fact sheet explains:
Iran, China, and Cuba use the UNHRC to shield themselves despite having egregious records of human rights violations and abuses.
The anti-American outfit also “has demonstrated consistent bias against Israel, focusing on it unfairly and disproportionately in council proceedings”:
In 2018, the year President Trump withdrew from the UNHRC in his first administration, the organization passed more resolutions condemning Israel than Syria, Iran, and North Korea combined.
Trump’s move will save millions for American taxpayers. When the Biden administration foolishly rejoined UNESCO in 2023, it pumped $150 million into the outfit for fiscal 2024, for “dues and arrears,” The Associated Press reported.
American taxpayers, who provide 22 percent of UNESCO’s budget, supposedly “owe” it $619 million.
Taxpayers also provide 22 percent of the total UN budget. The Turtle Bay grifters claim the U.S. owes them “2.8 billion, of which $1.5 billion is for the regular budget,” Reuters reported. “These payments are not voluntary.”
Before contributions to it were suspended, UNRWA was confiscating $300 million-$400 million from U.S. taxpayers, Reuters added.
The U.S. is the UN’s largest contributor.
United Nations — A Red Operation
Perhaps the most important fact about the United Nations is that a key figure in its founding was communist spy Alger Hiss, a State Department official.
Hiss attended the Yalta and Dumbarton Oaks conferences with Franklin Delano Roosevelt that led to the UN’s creation. He was secretary-general at its organizing conference in San Francisco, California, in 1945.
Hiss would have gotten away with his treason were it not for fellow Red agent-turned Christian conservative Whittaker Chambers, who fingered Hiss for the House Un-American Activities Committee in August 1948.
As the FBI’s website explains, Chambers confirmed testimony from former Soviet agent Elizabeth Bentley that Hiss was a Soviet agent as well.
Hiss denied the charge, but that November Chambers produced microfilm he had hidden in a pumpkin at his farm in Westminster, Maryland. It contained copies of State Department documents with notes in Hiss’ handwriting.
Because Hiss had denied the espionage accusation, he was charged with and convicted of perjury and sent to federal prison for five years. He escaped espionage charges because the statute of limitations had expired.
