Texas Public Policy Foundation CEO Greg Sindelar is encouraging Texas to declare an invasion at the southern border to protect Texas sovereignty and Texans “from cartel forces and their allies.”
The Center Square reported:
Sindelar says the foundation is advocating for the state of Texas to declare that “an invasion [is] underway, from cartel forces and their allies, under the U.S. Constitution’s Article I, Section 10.” It’s also calling on the federal government to designate Mexican cartels as terror organizations, among other policies it will be proposing.
The push to have the state government declare an invasion has grown louder over the last few months. In July, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order that helps law enforcement return illegals to the border, but is short of declaring an invasion. Abbott’s executive order was in direct defiance of President Biden’s “welcome mat” plan for what the White House prefers to call “irregular” migration.
“I have authorized the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety to begin returning illegal immigrants to the border to stop this criminal enterprise endangering our communities,” Abbott said. “As the challenges on the border continue to increase, Texas will continue to take action to address those challenges caused by the Biden Administration.”
Over five million people have been arrested or evaded capture while entering the U.S. since President Biden made significant policy changes at the southern border. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has claimed the border is closed and secure, but 14 attorneys general have called for his resignation and Texas and numerous states have sued, arguing his policies are unconstitutional and wreaking havoc in their states.
Officials of four counties — Jasper, Madison, Throckmorton, and Wichita — recently declared an invasion at the southern border. Twenty-two counties have now done so, bolstering the case for the state to do the same.
“They’ve signed resolutions expressing support for border counties and for Gov. Greg Abbott to declare an invasion, citing U.S. and Texas constitutional authority to protect Texas sovereignty, Texans and Americans from cartel violence, unprecedented illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling pouring into Texas and the U.S. a result of Biden administration policies,” reported The Center Square.
The county resolutions stated, “Our southern Texas border is suffering a criminal invasion in the form of illegal human trafficking, as well as drug and weapons smuggling.”
Those 22 counties, the Texas Republican Party, and now the Texas Public Policy Foundation have asked Abbott to declare an invasion. They support his border security efforts through Operation Lone Star (a joint mission with the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety launched in 2021), and encouraged him to use his full authority under the U.S. and Texas constitutions to “take the necessary steps … to secure the Texas border and stop the invasion at the border, including the actions by paramilitary, narco-terrorist cartels that pose a huge risk to our communities.”
Even with the pressure to declare an invasion, Abbott has been reluctant to do so. However as TNA reported last week, Abbott has been busing illegals to New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., gaining the attention of those cities’ mayors but not a single sound from the White House.
On Sunday, during an interview with Meet the Press, Vice President Kamala Harris — the nation’s “Border Czar” — declared the U.S. southern border “secure” despite the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who routinely cross into the country every month.
The vice president claimed that the immigration system was “broken” under the Trump administration. “I think that there is no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do, the first request we made: pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship,” Harris said. “The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed.”
It’s obvious that the Biden administration does not want to keep illegal aliens from entering our sovereign nation, with his administration’s typical finger-pointing and partisan rhetoric that has gone on for decades. Harris is just a talking head, who truly has no idea of what the border crisis is actually about or the consequences American citizens suffer as they live and work near the overrun southern border.
Gov. Abbott’s efforts with new legislative reforms — dedicating more than $4 billion of Texas taxpayer money to state border security through Operation Lone Star and deploying thousands of members of the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety to the border — have yet to show being effective with the flow of illegals crossing the border.
But will Governor Abbott’s declaration of an invasion change anything? Will it allow Texas to repel the invasion themselves? Or will it finally force the federal government to send troops to protect Texas (under the U.S. Constitution’s Article IV, Section 4) and the nation from the swarms of illegal aliens, Mexican cartels, and terror organizations wreaking havoc upon our citizens? That issue won’t be in play until Abbott does make such a declaration.
Regardless, knowing Biden and his open-border supporters, it will be a miracle if any progress is made in protecting our porous borders while he’s in office.
