John McManus, publisher for The New American magazine and President of the John Birch Society, launched a speakers tour on Sunday April 5, entitled “Stealing the American Dream: How Illegal Immigration Affects You.” On the nationwide speakers tour, McManus targets a variety of issues related to illegal immigration, including its effects on taxes, jobs, health care, border security, voter fraud, and national debt.
According to McManus, “if current laws were enforced, there would be millions of jobs for legal citizens, and all that’s needed is for the federal government to adhere faithfully to laws that already exist. Doing so would solve not only the illegal immigration problem but much of the unemployment problem as well.”
McManus outlines the American problem of illegal immigration by first pointing to the degradation of the Constitution within the past few decades. It first begins with a misinterpretation of the Constitution, which resonates in every aspect of our government, from the improper use of executive orders to the Supreme Court creating laws rather than assuring that they are executed according to the Constitution. For decades, the American government has reached far beyond the realms of their powers, manipulating Constitutional language in order to justify doing so.
While the explicit nature of Constitutional language should negate the necessity for interpretation, McManus addresses how both Democratic and Republican politicians alike have “bamboozled” Americans with the following:
• The alleged presence of incidental/implied powers. The idea that it is the job of the federal government to provide for the general welfare. If it is “not prohibited” by the Constitution, it is not off-limits;
• Interstate Commerce Clause involves more than assuring that there are no interstate tariffs;
• That the “necessary and proper” clause is elastic;
• The sanctity of precedence when it comes to Supreme Court rulings;
• That the “Supremacy” clause reaches beyond declaring the Constitution to be the supreme law of the land;
• The “people have a right to” more than what the Constitution outlines;
• Treaty law “supersedes the Constitution”
Yet with the rampant abuse and intentional misreading of the Constitution under the guise of “interpretation,” simple, clear-cut language like “The United States shall protect each of the states against invasion,” found in Article IV, Section 4, somehow manages to elude our elected officials. McManus points out, if the presence of 12-20 million illegal aliens in the United States does not constitute an invasion, what does?
But the federal government has dropped the ball when it comes to providing these protections to the American citizens. This is what has forced Arizona’s hand, according to McManus. Unfortunately, the mainstream media chooses to ignore the government’s failures, as well as the monumental costs to America in doing so.
The costs of educating, incarcerating, and providing medical care to the millions of illegals in America adds up to approximately $36 billion annually. Likewise, what Americans do not pay out of pocket, they pay with their lives. In San Diego alone, one-third of the rapes and murders are committed by illegal aliens, as are one-fourth of the burglaries.
Perhaps worst of all is the disappearance of American culture through the influx of illegal aliens, who refuse to assimilate to the American way of life.
McManus points out that the overwhelming response to these figures from Washington, D.C., has been a push for amnesty under the pretext of “comprehensive immigration reform” dating all the way back to 1965, under the “Hart-Celler Immigration Act.” Even promises from nominal conservatives like President Ronald Reagan and President George W. Bush have been unfulfilled.
The effort to “fundamentally transform” America, as Glenn Beck puts it, with the imposition of socialism, and, dare I say it, Marxism, is directly related to the drive for blanket amnesty. After all, President Obama has come closer to achieving the radical progressive agenda than any other American president. Providing suffrage to illegal aliens will assure that the socialist Democrats remain in power indefinitely to continue carrying out their agenda.
If that seems hard to believe, McManus names some of the groups supporting amnesty, particularly SEIU, La Raza, the Democratic Socialists of America, and of course, the Council on Foreign Affairs, a group that McManus asserts is intent on “engineering the decline of our country” by attempting to erode national sovereignty.
McManus closes by comparing the United States to the Roman Empire. The similarities are uncanny, but most devastating is the realization that the collapse of the Roman Empire came about by an open immigration policy.
So what solution does McManus propose? Since the Constitution mandates that all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House of Representatives, “Take back our country through the House of Representatives.” McManus provides his audiences with hope that all is not yet lost.
The 60-venue tour began on April 5 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and has thus far made its way through Oklahoma, Illinois, and various cities in Texas and Florida. The tour continues in Memphis, Tennessee on May 11 and through Georgia, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Iowa, before ending on August 5 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
McManus, an accomplished, yet down to earth speaker, is a native of Brooklyn, New York, and has an incredibly impressive and busy career. After having earned his Bachelor’s degree in physics, McManus served three years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. While in active duty, McManus earned an award from the Air Force after designing a component used in fighter aircraft. After working as an electronics engineer for several years, McManus began his long career with the John Birch Society in 1966.
