On Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, referred to Representative Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.), known as MTG, as “murderous” in a brief Twitter war over the experimental vaccines being pushed upon the public in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Newsom had been making the rounds on left-wing cable networks MSNBC and CNN earlier in the day and called out MTG and others by name as the main reason some people do not wish to be vaccinated with the experimental vaccines.
On MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin Reports, Newsom said that unvaccinated Californians were the result of an “overwhelming majority of misinformation by right wing pundits. Period, full stop. Time to be a little bit more specific. The Ron Johnsons of the world. The Marjorie Taylor Greenes of the world. The Tucker Carlsons of the world. I watch them. I listen. I pay attention. They are misinforming. They are literally putting people’s lives at risk. People are dying because of the misinformation, either knowingly or unknowingly, regardless, time to call it out.”
Then on CNN, Newsom complained that “misinformation” from the Right was the reason that people didn’t want to get vaccinated. Newsom then compared those who don’t wish to get the vaccine to drunk drivers. “It’s like drunk drivers. You don’t have the right to go out and drink and drive and put everybody at risk, including your own life at risk. California has one of the highest vaccination rates in America and we’re still seeing an increase because so many people, 25% in California, are refusing to get vaccinated,” Newsom said.
It’s been a trying time for the California governor, who is facing a recall election on September 14. Citizens in the Golden State have been unhappy with Newsom’s over-the-top tactics in handling the Chinese virus in his state — a fact that MTG brought up in a tweet:
“@GavinNewsom you know what is exhausting to the people of California? Your communist dictatorship. Shutting down businesses, closing churches, schools, and beaches is disgraceful. Mandating vaccines against people’s will is unconscionable. Which is why you’re being recalled.”
Newsom’s reaction to the tweet shows the stress the poor man is under.
“Disgraceful? Here’s a word — murderous. Your anti-vaccine lies are literally killing Americans,” the governor charged. “Your own supporters are following you off a cliff and into the ICU. Come clean about vaccines — they save lives.”
Newsom is in desperate need of attention as polls show him perilously close to losing his job in September. The latest UC-Berkley Institute of Government Studies Poll shows Newsom with only a narrow three-point lead on the question of whether he should be removed as governor. Perhaps that’s the reason for his heated rhetoric on vaccines.
Newsom is now joining with other Democrats in calling for mandated vaccinations for some professions. On Monday, he announced that all workers at hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the state will have to show proof of vaccination beginning August 2. Facilities will have until August 23 to be in full compliance. Those who don’t wish to be vaccinated will need to be tested for the coronavirus at least once, and possibly twice, per week.
But the people of California should remember that the recall effort against Newsom is not just about his handling of the Chinese virus, which, as MTG pointed out, was appalling in its authoritarianism. The recall effort was originally about Newsom’s push for universal healthcare in the state, his outspoken support for illegal immigration and his push for California to become a “sanctuary state” for illegal aliens, and his utter inaction on the homelessness crisis in his state.
His complete mishandling of the Chinese virus is just another reason for him to be recalled.
