Harassment of Trump attorneys in vote-fraud cases now appears to be the Left’s next strategy against the embattled president, who is contesting Joe Biden’s “win”: Without lawyers representing the president, there can be no lawsuits.
First, the Lincoln Project, founded by virulent anti-Trumpers such as George Conway, husband of former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway, has launched a social media campaign encouraging disaffected and disgruntled members of the public to “confront” lawyers working to defend the president.
Then, days later, a similar strategy was approved in the Washington Post by contributing columnist Randall Eliason. Eliason, a lawyer who teaches about white collar crime at George Washington University Law School, penned his opinion piece a week after the election, saying “holding law firms publicly accountable for their decisions to be involved in these cases [defending President Trump] is fair game…. It’s not out of bounds to criticize those who agree to bring cases that could be so damaging to our democracy.”
Within days a Trump lawyer, Linda Kerns, started receiving abusive emails, phone calls, physical threats and even accusations of treason against the United States, all for representing the president in litigation in Pennsylvania.
It was so bad that she filed a complaint with Pennsylvania’s secretary of state, stating that she has suffered “continuous harassment in the form of abusive emails, phone calls, physical and economic threats, and even accusations of treason.” One source of harassment came from an attorney in the law firm Kirkland & Ellis — the same firm that briefly represented General Michael Flynn before his case was taken over by Sidney Powell — claiming that one particular email had broken “the laws of decorum.” The contents of the email have not been made public but will be provided to the court upon request. Said Kerns, the email “speaks for itself and by any measure falls afoul of standards of professional conduct.”
When Kerns went directly to Kirkland & Ellis about the abusive email from one of the firm’s associates, the law firm admitted only that it was “discourteous” and apologized for having wasted Kern’s time in complaining about it.
On Thanksgiving Day another legal advisor to the Trump election fraud discovery team, Jenna Ellis, told Breitbart News that she had received “hundreds of DMs (Direct Messages) … threatening me.” Some of them have been public, encouraging people to file complaints with the Colorado bar where she is licensed to practice law.
She said that an “unknown number has called my cell phone dozens of times between midnight and 4am to blow up my phone and try to get through the DND [do not disturb].”
Another email was so vile that it won’t be quoted here except to say it claimed that Ellis is “the reason people despise humanity.”
In response Ellis tweeted: “Do your worst. I’m not intimidated. I won’t back down. My mission is Truth, my God is the Lord Jesus Christ, and my client is the President of the United States.”
Scholar Jonathan Turley (who is also suffering a similar barrage of attacks now that the Democrats have unofficially endorsed such behavior) asked: where is Joe Biden in all of this? Isn’t he the one calling for unity? Tweeted Turley:
[Biden] has said nothing about the campaign against Trump lawyers and their clients … [his] silence speaks loudly to our loss of civility and decency.
It also speaks to the new low reached by the anti-Trump campaign in its efforts to keep the president from taking office for a second term.
