The mysterious, opaque, and secretly funded White House’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP), headed by Vice President (and now presidential candidate) Kamala Harris, has refused to cooperate with attempts to investigate its collusion with the anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety. Accordingly, on Thursday the House Oversight Committee, chaired by James Comer (R-Ky.), issued two subpoenas: one to the head of the office and the other to the head of the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives).

Subpoena to Feldman

The collusion — i.e., coordination between Everytown and the OGVP — was plain to see. As Comer explained in his subpoena announcement to Stefanie Feldman, director of the OGPV:

The Committee has learned that on December 20, 2023, the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention met privately with representatives from Glock, during which the Administration requested that Glock change their pistol designs so that it would be harder to illegally modify Glock pistols to shoot continuously with a single trigger pull.

On March 19, 2024, the City of Chicago filed suit in state court against Glock. Everytown Law, the litigation arm of Everytown for Gun Safety, is listed as counsel for the plaintiff.

The day the suit was filed, John Feinblatt, President of Everytown for Gun Safety, posted on his X account “Today Everytown Law + the City of Chicago announced a historic lawsuit against Glock Inc. to hold them accountable for the unconscionable decision to continue selling its easily modified pistols ever though it could fix the problem.”

Later in the post, Mr. Feinblatt said “[f]ederal Officials recently contacted Glock to discuss implementing new ways to modify Glock pistols to make it harder for Glock switches to be installed. Rather than help, Glock falsely insisted there is nothing they can do.”

Because the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention’s meeting with Glock was private, Mr. Feinblatt appears to have had insider information regarding your office’s meeting with Glock, which raises questions about whether your office colluded with Everytown for Gun Safety to initiate their lawsuit against Glock.

In June, Comer’s committee requested documentation of conversations between the OGVP and Everytown to learn if there really was collusion. Feldman ignored the request.

On July 19 Comer tried again. Instead of a response from Feldman, Comer got a “get lost” response from Deputy Counsel to the President Rachel Cotton. She said his request was a witch hunt, a political stunt, and “unfounded.”

Subpoena to Dettelbach

Comer upped the ante. He informed both Feldman and ATF Director Steven Dettelbach last Thursday that he was issuing subpoenas to appear in person in front of his committee to explain their refusals and dig deeper into the obvious collusion between the administration and Everytown against Glock.

In his letter to Dettelbach, Comer reiterated the connection:

Because the White House’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention meeting with Glock was private, Mr. Feinblatt appears to have had insider information regarding the meeting with Glock, raising questions about whether the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention colluded with Everytown for Gun Safety to initiate their lawsuit against Glock.

Who’s the Real Criminal?

The surface issue is the so-called Glock switch, or auto sear. That is the quarter-sized implement that, when installed, turns a Glock pistol from semiautomatic fire to automatic fire. The New American has carefully tracked and documented the legal maneuvering, and exposed its real object: punishment by litigation. One can be innocent and still be driven into bankruptcy (i.e., General Michael Flynn).

Nothing is mentioned in any of the legal wranglings about the real criminal. That would be the person who may have installed a “switch” and used the modified firearm to commit a crime. He is the one who should be prosecuted, not Glock.
