On July 7, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced that he was filing suit against the Biden administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ). He claims the DOJ is “stonewalling” a request to release any communications between the DOJ and New York Attorney General Leticia James, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, or Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis that might relate to Trump’s prosecutions in those states.

Bailey began an investigation in May, claiming that the “investigations and subsequent prosecutions of former President Donald J. Trump appear to have been conducted in coordination with the United States Department of Justice.” Thus far, the DOJ has been uncooperative in the investigation.

On X, Bailey let the Biden administration and everyone else involved know just what he thought of the state trials against Trump.

The Lawsuit

“I am filing suit against Joe Biden’s corrupt Department of Justice for stonewalling my demand for transparency and accountability into the illicit prosecutions of President Trump,” Bailey posted.

For the record, Bailey is seeking documentation relating to “to the Department of Justice (‘DOJ’) activity and/or communications between Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith or Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.”

Both James and Bragg campaigned on holding Trump accountable for his alleged transgressions in New York. Smith is the “special prosecutor” in charge of investigating any violations connected with the transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election as well as the alleged insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Willis, the scandal plagued DA of Fulton County, Georgia, is also investigating alleged 2020 election improprieties.

“Thanks to evidence that has come to light, my office has reason to believe Biden’s corrupt Department of Justice is the headquarters of the illicit prosecutions against President Trump,” Bailey said in a press release. “That’s why we’re demanding the DOJ turn over documents that we believe will expose these political prosecutions for what they are: a witch hunt.”

Americans Deserve to Know

Bailey believes that Americans deserve to know the extent of any collusion between the DOJ and state prosecutors.

“Missourians — and all Americans — deserve to know to what extent the prosecutions of a prominent presidential candidate are being coordinated by the federal government, which is currently run by President Trump’s principal political opponent,” Bailey said on X. “Biden’s DOJ owes it to the American people to produce the documents we have demanded.”

In his initial request for the communications, Bailey spelled out why they were important.

“The investigations and subsequent prosecutions of former President Donald J. Trump appear to have been conducted in coordination with the United States Department of Justice,” Bailey wrote. “This is demonstrated only in part by the move of the third-highest ranking member of the Department of Justice, Matthew Colangelo, to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in order to prosecute former President Donald J. Trump in the so-called ‘hush money’ trial in December 2022.”

Biden Campaign Strategy

Bailey concludes that the state prosecutions of Trump are really nothing more than a campaign strategy.

“Given the timing (Bragg charged Trump only after Trump declared his candidacy for President), the transparent weakness of the charges, and the effect the charges have in keeping Trump off the campaign trail, there is substantial reason to suspect the Biden administration has coordinated with Bragg and others to bring prosecutions against Trump,” Bailey observed.

Bailey has been busy going after far-left sacred cows since he first took office in January of 2023. In addition to harassing the DOJ over politicization, Bailey has also sued Planned Parenthood Missouri over allegations that they trafficked minors across state lines in order to procure abortions that are now illegal in Missouri after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Bailey has also been a thorn in the side of the left-wing smear merchants at Media Matters. Bailey claims that Media Matters used fraud and “knowingly and maliciously” portrayed ads adjacent to what some called hateful material “as if they were what typical X users experience on the platform.”

In May, Media Matters laid off a large portion of its workforce amid Bailey’s investigation and a lawsuit from X owner Elon Musk.

“The Constitution makes clear that Joe Biden does not get to thwart Congress when it suits his political agenda. The Constitution will continue to mean something as long as I’m Attorney General,” Bailey recently told Fox Business.
