In a bizarre exchange with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a mainstream media anchor defended European censorship by saying the Nazis’ Jewish genocide was a result of free speech.
This sounds like something out of The Onion, but, unfortunately, it’s coming from media many Americans still take seriously.
CBS’s Face the Nation anchor Margaret Brennan interviewed Rubio on Sunday about Vice President J.D. Vance’s finger-wagging speech at the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany. Instead of the expected cheerleading for more warmongering under the pretense of saving Ukraine’s “democracy,” Vance opted to scold European leaders for turning into the type of tyrants their fathers and grandfathers died to defeat in World War II. Vance told Europe’s leaders the largest threat is from within, not from Russia or China. He then went through a list of examples of Soviet-style crackdowns happening in non-Russia Europe:
I was struck that a former European commissioner went on television recently and sounded delighted that the Romanian government had just annulled an entire election. He warned that if things don’t go [according] to plan, the very same thing could happen in Germany too.… I look to Brussels, where EU Commission commissars warned citizens that they intend to shut down social media during times of civil unrest, the moment they spot what they’ve judged to be “hateful content”; or to this very country, where police have carried out raids against citizens suspected of posting anti-feminist comments online as part of “combating misogyny” on the internet.… I look to Sweden, where two weeks ago the government convicted a Christian activist for participating in Quran burnings that resulted in his friend’s murder. And as the judge in his case chillingly noted, Sweden’s laws to supposedly protect free expression do not, in fact, grant — and I’m quoting — a “free pass” to do or say anything without risking offending the group that holds that belief. And perhaps most concerningly, I look to our very dear friends, the United Kingdom, where the backslide away from conscience rights has placed the basic liberties of religious Britons in particular in the crosshairs.
These worrisome examples didn’t faze Brennan. First, she asked Rubio what Vance’s scolding, as well as his meeting with Germany’s AfD party leaders, accomplished “other than irritating our allies.” Rubio tried to pivot back to the issue, America’s concern that her European allies are losing the shared values of individual liberty. That’s when Brennan said something so ignorant it would be unbelievable without video proof:
Rubio responded with rudimentary history every reporter should know:
I have to disagree with you. Free speech was not used to conduct a genocide. The genocide was conducted by an authoritarian Nazi regime that happened to also be genocidal because they hated Jews and they hated minorities and they hated those that they— they had a list of people they hated, but primarily the Jews. There was no free speech in Nazi Germany. There was none. There was also no opposition in Nazi Germany, they were a sole and only party that governed that country. So that’s not an accurate reflection of history.
Vance’s speech was so upsetting to Europe’s effeminate soft tyrants that German diplomat Christoph Heusgen cried on the podium while giving the closing speech at the Munich Security Conference.
Vance, for his part, responded to Brennan’s comment with a tweet saying, “This is a crazy exchange. Does the media really think the holocaust was caused by free speech?”
The Censors Are Acting Like Nazis
Meanwhile, in Germany, tyranny is on the rise again. In a 60 Minutes interview, a number of German prosecutors went on record saying that insulting someone is a crime, not only in person but especially online, because “it stays there.”
The irony is that the Nazis employed propaganda tactics akin to the American Deep State and Europe’s Censorship Industrial Complex. Joseph Goebbels established the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda as the Nazis took control of newspapers, magazines, radio, educational books, music, and pretty much every conduit of ideas. They ended press freedom using false-flag attacks such as the Reichstag Fire, claiming the restrictions were necessary for national security. The Nazi regime used media control to shape German culture as they wanted it. They also justified censorship by claiming it was necessary to protect the public from harmful information. That’s exactly the justification the United States and Europe are using.
The Western-led Attack on Liberty
Over the last few years, Americans have learned that elements within their government have hijacked most media to shape U.S. society according to their will, not that of the people. The Twitter Files, admissions by Meta head Mark Zuckerberg, and dogged investigative journalism by Michael Shellenberger and Matt Taibbi reveal complex yet long-standing censorship campaigns waged by the U.S. government not only against Americans, but against people all over the world. There are emails showing intelligence agents berating social-media employees as part of larger efforts to make those platforms censor unapproved views on Covid, the 2020 presidential election, and anti-LGBTQ views.
Just recently, President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncovered receipts showing that legacy media outlets including Politico, The Associated Press, Reuters, The New York Times, and others have together taken more than $1 billion through various government agencies. Also, former U.S. State Department official-turned-free-speech-advocate Mike Benz provides research showing that “23 US-funded organizations are involved in the EU’s censorship regime, either supporting it through their signatures, or directly participating in it through the ‘digital observatory’ system.”
The censorship labyrinth is complex and confusing. It involves a number of entities, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), which received $31.8 million in taxpayer funds between 2020 and 2022; the National Endowment for Democracy, an “independent” organization that gets all its money through congressional appropriations; the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, which launders censorship of populist narratives through a number of nongovernmental organizations; and USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG), which has pushed America’s foreign partners to pressure social-media companies to censor unapproved views. This is just a small sampling.
Control the Narrative, Control the People
What is happening in the West is the culmination of decades of work by globalists seeking to build a totalitarian, global-government system with U.S. and European intranational organizations at the center.
The parent company of this magazine, The John Birch Society, has warned for decades that there are anti-American elements embedded within the government attempting to undermine the sovereignty of the nation and the liberties of its citizens. JBS has also warned that the European Union, the United Nations, and NATO exist for the purpose of becoming main pillars of an emerging world order. Any economic or security-related justifications are facades.
We are now seeing and learning in real time that all this is undoubtedly true. Europeans are waking up to the fact that EU officials do not represent their interests or well-being. And Americans are now getting receipts almost daily of long-standing subversive campaigns to undermine their liberty and will.
The reason propaganda has been so important to the globalist-conspiracy network is obvious: Control is easier when the people go along. But Covid illustrated what happens when the people refuse to go along. While Covid was a dark period, Americans might not have been as awake as they are now had it not happened.
