The Mexican government is openly trying to subvert President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan with lawyers and a smartphone application with which Mexican illegal aliens can alert consulates of possible deportation.
The move is the second sign that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum knows that Trump and his incoming border czar, Tom Homan, are dead serious about rounding up illegals, starting with dangerous criminals, and sending them back home where they belong. The first sign was Mexico’s plan to open shelters just south of the border to house almost 13,000 illegals.
But Mexico, of course, doesn’t want Mexican illegals deported for one big reason, Breitbart noted in its report on the legal aid plan: They send too much money back home from the states.
The Plan
Mexico “is sending hundreds of lawyers north into the U.S. to provide legal shields for Mexico’s four million illegal migrants currently in the United States,” Breitbart revealed:
The government wants to protect Mexican migrants from deportation, in part because they send billions of their U.S. earnings back to Mexico. In 2023, for instance, they sent more than $63 billion of these remittances to their relatives outside the U.S.
Even worse, Mexico’s anti-American government will release a smartphone app called “Alert Button” that will connect the illegals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with relatives. “It will also alert the closest Mexican consulate about the detention[,] upon which the Mexican lawyers will leap into action,” Breitbart reported:
After announcing the app, Mexico Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente urged Mexicans living illegally in the U.S. to register to use the app, saying, “Not everyone has done this yet. We strongly encourage everyone to register with our consulates as this enables us to provide legal protection when needed.”
De la Fuente also said the “emergency notification” app will go live in January, Axios reported. “I have personally attended several open meetings where the key message is to tell our fellow citizens that they are not alone and will not be alone,” he said:
De la Fuente said Mexico’s “Know Your Rights” program will be part of a rapid response to possible enforcement scenarios or “other intimidating actions.”
Mexico’s legal protection program includes 329 legal advisors at all 53 consulates in the U.S., along with voluntary support from consultants and law firms across the country, he said.
Shelters to Open
However, Sheinbaum clearly believes Trump isn’t kidding about mass deportations. As The New American reported in May, mass deportations were a key campaign vow. Last year, Trump said he would conduct the “largest domestic deportation operation in American history” and that ICE would employ “local law enforcement” and “start with the criminals.”
To remove the illegals, notably the gang members, Trump plans to use the Alien Enemies Act, 50 U.S. Code 21-24. It permits the president to deport any foreigner deemed dangerous to the country:
Whenever there is a declared war between the United States and any foreign nation or government, or any invasion or predatory incursion is perpetrated, attempted, or threatened against the territory of the United States by any foreign nation or government, and the President makes public proclamation of the event, all natives, citizens, denizens, or subjects of the hostile nation or government, being of the age of fourteen years and upward, who shall be within the United States and not actually naturalized, shall be liable to be apprehended, restrained, secured, and removed as alien enemies.
Trump also said he would use the National Guard.
The plan has inspired blue-city mayors and other local officials to vow resistance, with the mayor of Denver promising rebellion and insurrection. He promised to use city cops and “50,000 Denverites” to block ICE agents from entering the city.
So Mexico has ordered 25 shelters in Tijuana and Mexicali to house the coming surge of deportees, said Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Mexican border state Baja.
Said Ávila Olmeda:
What we do know, throughout his campaign, he threatened to do this, and since he was already president of the United States, we believe this time he will be stricter and tougher when it comes to deportations. We are working to get ready and receive our migrants.
Each shelter will house 500 illegals, which means they can handle 12,500.
“Zero Tolerance” Homan
How the legal-aid program or internal resistance to deportations works out with Homan at the helm of the border is unclear. Known for his takedown of leftist U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Homan has repeatedly said the deportations begin on “Day 1” of Trump’s second administration.
Speaking at the Republican National Convention in July, Homan said that Biden’s immigration “madness” will end when Trump is elected. “You better start packing now,” he warned the illegals whom Biden unlawfully released, “because you’re going home.”
Homan also threatened the border drug cartels. Trump will designate them as terrorist organizations, he said. And “he’s going to wipe you off the face of the earth.”
And Homan has repeatedly warned blue-city and -state officials not to stand against ICE.
“They need to review this,” he told Fox News of the open-borders officials who threatened to block deportations:
Title 8, United States Code 1324 III. Read about that and don’t cross that line because it is a felony to harbor and conceal an illegal alien from ICE. Read the statute. Don’t cross that line.
