Mayors’ Network Aids Obama Plan to “Surge” Syrian Refugees Into U.S.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (shown) is leading an effort by Democratic mayors to lend support to President Obama’s plan to “surge” Syrian refugees into the United States. As we have reported previously, the Obama administration is proceeding to implement this dangerous program even though U.S. intelligence officials state that they do not have the ability to do proper background checks on those UN-designated migrants to make sure that they are not terrorists, or even to determine whether or not they are actually Syrians.

On September 24, Mayor de Blasio was joined by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, and 13 other mayors, all of whom signed a letter to President Obama endorsing his Syrian resettlement program. In fact, the mayors are asking Obama to expand the program beyond the 10,000 Syrians the president committed to as an initial step. However, Secretary of State John Kerry has already stated the administration plans to increase our refugee influx by “at least” 30,000 — and even more “if possible.”

“We will welcome the Syrian families to make homes and new lives in our cities,” wrote the mayors, all of whom are part of the Cities United for Immigration Action, a coalition founded earlier this year, with, according to the New York Times, funding from billionaire leftist George Soros. “Indeed, we are writing to say that we stand ready to work with your Administration to do much more and to urge you to increase still further the number of Syrian refugees the United States will accept for resettlement,” say the mayors. “This is a challenge we can meet, and the undersigned mayors stand ready to help you meet it,” they wrote.

The mayors, in the order in which their signatures appear on the letter, are:

Ed Pawlowski, Mayor of Allentown, Penn.
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Mayor of Baltimore, Md.
Martin J. Walsh, Mayor of Boston, Mass.
James Diossa, Mayor of Central Falls, R.I.

Originally launched to provide support for the illegal alien amnesty President Obama unconstitutionally imposed by executive order, de Blasio’s United Cities for Immigration Action has filed two amicus briefs in support of Obama’s executive actions. This past July the mayors also mobilized to oppose legislation sponsored by Congressional Republicans to withhold federal funds from cities and counties that had declared themselves “sanctuaries,” and had refused to cooperate with federal authorities in apprehending and deporting illegal aliens — even dangerous multiple offenders, such as Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez, who is now charged with murdering a woman in San Francisco, a sanctuary city.

The full membership of Cities United for Immigration Action currently includes the following local officials:

Kathy Sheehan, mayor of Albany, N.Y.
Christopher Taylor, mayor of Ann Arbor, Mich.

De Blasio Promotes UN “Strong Cities Network”

The support of Mayor de Blasio and Cities United for Immigration Action for Obama-UN Syrian Resettlement plan is not surprising. Most of the CUIA cities are also active in the Refugee Lobby network we have reported on and are featured on the State Department’s map of the United States showing the refugee resettlement areas and the “contractor” activist organizations that are participants in the federally funded refugee programs. Despite being hopelessly in debt and already claiming record-high unemployment, homelessness, and welfare rolls, the politicians of the Democrat-run cities see every new “crisis” as another opportunity for political organizing, and another funnel for receiving additional federal aid.

On September 29, Mayor de Blasio joined Obama’s attorney general, Loretta Lynch, at the United Nations for the launch of the UN’s Strong Cities Network. De Blasio echoed Lynch’s calls for fighting “extremism.”

The mayor pointedly reached back two decades to mention the 1994 bombing of a Planned Parenthood abortion mill as an act of extremism. This fact, together with de Blasio’s long history of “progressive” activism (he is also founder of ProgressiveAgenda.us) and his support for the UN plan to resettle an unspecified number of unvetted Syrian “refugees” throughout the United States, gives justifiable concern that the Strong Cities agenda will be used as a weapon by the Obama administration and its supporters, such as de Blasio, to enforce political correctness by directing police and intelligence assets to focus on “extremism” as defined by the leftists running the Southern Poverty Law Center, the U.S. Justice Department, and the United Nations.
