Yet again, a drunk-driving illegal alien is charged in the vehicular homicide of an American.
The latest victim: seven-year-old Ivory Smith of Houston, Texas. Venezuelan Joel Gonzalez Chacin is charged with killing the little girl when he plowed into her mom’s car on Sunday.
Chacin is at least the second Venezuelan illegal this year to be charged with killing a little kid. In March, another drunk-driving Venezuelan was charged with killing 12-year-old Travis Wolfe.
Illegal aliens are notorious for driving drunk … and killing other motorists.
The Wreck
Cops told KHOU 11 News in Houston that a drunk ran a red light at 2 a.m. on Sunday and plowed into the car in which Ivory and her mom were traveling.
The illegal alien “displayed multiple signs of intoxication” at the scene, the station reported. He shockingly cared nothing for the two victims.
After the wreck, he didn’t try to help them, cops said. Instead, he “got out of his car and started taking photos of the scene,” the station reported.
Chacin is charged with intoxication manslaughter. On Tuesday, a judge hit the 41-year-old border-jumping miscreant with $150,000 bond.
KHOU reported that the little girl’s relatives “packed the courtroom” for the bond hearing:
“She is the light of everybody, the center of everybody’s life,” Ivory’s aunt, Sharonda Collins, told us. “She was just full of life, a lot of personality.” …
Collins said her sister underwent surgery yesterday but the emotional wounds will never heal.
“She’s not good, she lost her only child. She’s never gonna be good anymore. Her life has changed, our lives have changed, our kids’ lives have changed.” …
“We’re definitely worried he could flee. He has no conscience because he got out and he didn’t assist,” Collins said.
The CBS affiliate in Austin confirmed that Chacin is a Venezuelan, and that Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed a detainer on him with the Harris County Jail. Amazingly, jail authorities “did not immediately respond to a request … seeking confirmation as to whether it will honor the detainer request,” the station reported.
A detainer on a criminal alien asks authorities to hold him past his release date so ICE can deport him. Sanctuary cities routinely ignore detainer requests.
It isn’t clear when Chacin landed in the United States. Also unclear is whether, like so many Biden “migrants,” he was caught and released at the border.
Ignoring Detainer Requests
Sanctuary states and localities frequently refuse to honor detainers. They put dangerous illegal-alien criminals, including drunk drivers, back on the streets instead of holding them for deportation.
Case in point: Mexican illegal Israel Alejandro Gonzalez-Arcinega.
As The New American reported in May, Gonzalez was convicted of two counts of manslaughter and other crimes in April 2014 and sentenced to 12 years in prison. An immigration judge ordered him deported in May 2015.
But “the Connecticut Department of Corrections did not honor the ICE detainer and released Gonzalez from custody April 2 without notifying [Enforcement and Removal Operations] Boston,” ICE reported.
ICE captured the Mexican drunk on May 1.
Travis Wolfe, Other Victims
Another Venezuelan involved in a killing, police allege, is illegal alien Endrina Bracho.
She is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the vehicular homicide of Travis Wolfe in Hazelwood, Missouri, last December. Other charges, Fox 2 in St. Louis reported, are “two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of endangering a child in the first degree, and one count of operating a vehicle without a valid license.”
Driving without a license, police allege, she hurtled 1,700 feet — a third of a mile — down a 40 mph street on the wrong side at 75 mph and struck the Wolfe family’s vehicle.
Injured in the crash were Travis’ parents, who suffered “broken wrists, broken ribs, a broken sternum, and more,” the station reported.
Travis, who never woke up, died in the hospital. The boy was one day away from his 12th birthday.
Bracho’s two kids were in the car when she slammed into the Wolfe family.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey blamed the Biden administration for Wolfe’s death.
“The tragic loss of 12-year-old Travis Wolfe is yet another painful reminder of the devastating consequences of lax border enforcement,” he wrote on X.
He continued:
Illegal immigrants come to our country, kill our children, and continue the cycle because Biden refuses to hold them accountable. …
Illegal immigration is the cornerstone of the Biden administration, and Americans are paying the price with their lives.
Indeed. And as far as anyone knows, President Joe Biden has not hosted the Wolfes or any other victims of his illegal-alien pals — “the people we care about most,” Democratic Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy says — at the White House.
He hosted the family of George Floyd exactly a year after the drug-addled career criminal died of a fentanyl overdose while being restrained by Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin.
