Homan Repeats Warning: DOJ Looking Into Ocasio-Cortez Webinar

In three interviews in the last three days, border czar Tom Homan reiterated that he has asked the Justice Department whether Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) broke the law in hosting a webinar that told illegal aliens how to avoid arrest.

Homan told Fox talker Laura Ingraham last week that he had asked Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to opine on the legality of Ocasio-Cortez’s actions, and whether the webinar constituted impeding law enforcement.

The congresswoman replied that she was merely advising illegals of their rights.

Not so, Homan says, when she clearly is teaching the illegals how to evade arrest.

The scrap between Homan and the congresswoman began after she hosted a webinar on her Facebook page.

Put on by the subversive Immigrant Defense Project, the 54-minute “Know Your Rights” broadcast did more than just explain an illegal alien’s rights, as The New American reported.

It revealed such information as how, when, and where Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducts raids, and claimed that ICE agents “use ‘ruses’ to mislead or lie about who they are” and “may pretend to be local police.”

The webinar also claimed that illegals have a right to not permit ICE agents to enter a home.

Homan told Ingraham he had written to Bove to seek an opinion on Ocasio-Cortez’s subversive activities, which included her own advice in another video.

“You are able to tell them no, and they do walk away,” she said. “What you can do is protect people around you and also make sure that you are slowing down this system.”

“So maybe AOC’s going to be in trouble now.… Impedement is impedement in my opinion,” he told Ingraham. Threatened Homan, “If we have to take every federal dollar out of the city, we’ll do it.”

CNN Interview

In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Bash asked, “Are you suggesting that she should be prosecuted?”

“I’m suggesting that I would ask the Department of Justice, where’s that line on impedement, right? That’s a broad statute,” Homan replied.

“I’m asking the Department of Justice, who are the prosecutors and decide who they prosecute and what the standards of that prosecution is,” he continued:

At what point is that impeding? Because you can — you can call it “know your rights” all you want. We all know what the bottom line is. The bottom line is how they evade law enforcement. “Don’t open your door. Don’t answer questions.”

Hilariously, when Bash repeated Ocasio-Cortez’s idiotic claim that Homan is only “vaguely familiar” with immigration laws, Homan replied,

Vaguely aware of immigration law? I have done this since 1984. I’ve forgotten more about the immigration law than AOC will ever know.

Homan pointed to the now-famous congressional hearing at which he schooled the former bartender on immigration law.

Speaking of the illegal-alien criminals who have been ordered deported, Homan said that “they ignore their order from a federal judge, they’re hiding in a home, and she’s telling them not to open the door. Now, I’m not saying that’s illegal. What I’m saying is, I asked the attorney general, at what point is it impeding and what point is it not impeding?”

Attempting to get in the last word, Bash falsely claimed that being “undocumented is a civil offense.”

In fact, 8 U.S. Code 1325 says the following:

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

Though illegal entry also invites a civil penalty, the law says, such penalties “are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed.”

Hemmer and Hannity

Homan told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer and Sean Hannity much the same thing. Ocasio-Cortez claims she is “educating” illegals about their rights, but she’s also “telling people, ‘Don’t open your door. Hide in your home. Don’t talk to ICE.’”

And those people, he said, are criminals and a “public safety threat” — those “convicted of a serious crime and ordered removed by a federal judge.”

“It’s like AOC and other [members of Congress] don’t want ICE to enforce the laws that they enacted” he said.

So, again, Homan told Hemmer, he asked DOJ, “Where is that line of impedement, of interference?”

“She wants to go out say she’s teaching people their constitutional rights,” Homan told Hannity:

Yeah, you can call it that. But we all know what she is up to: She wants to tell these people how to evade arrest, how to evade ICE. We’ve still got child predators we are looking for in New York in her district — people convicted of child sex crimes, people who have been convicted of rape. And she wants to say she is educating them on their constitutional rights. We’re trying to enforce the laws that Congress enacted…. As a member of Congress, you would think she‘d want ICE to enforce the laws.

But, as with Bash and Hemmer, Homan said he asked DOJ to find out whether AOC crossed a line from “educating people [about their rights] versus teaching them how to evade ICE arrest.”

Homan also reiterated for Hannity ICE’s and the Border Patrol’s smashing success at closing the border.

“In the last 24 hours the US Border Patrol has encountered a total of 229 aliens across the entire southwest border,” Homan wrote on X:

That is down from a high of over 11,000 a day under Biden. I started as a Border Patrol Agent in 1984 and I don’t remember the numbers ever being that low. President Trump promised a secure border and he is delivering.

Homan also explained that interior arrests under Trump have increased 137 percent.
